Not worth the wait. (Long post ahead) This was on my list of restaurants to try for a little while, but I live quite far from it. My family and I came in a few nights ago and we were the only ones there for about 20 mins ( a couple and then table of 4). We asked some questions about what is the most popular and the waitress kept pushing for the Shahjahan chicken and any other dish we asked, she made somewhat of a stink face (we noticed them pushing the same for another table too). So we felt like we had to get it.
We ended up getting the paneer 65, Shahjahan chicken curry and the chicken 65 Biryani with an extra naan(they told us that we didn't need 3; thank goodness for that note). The paneer 65 was very rubbery and chewy to the point where you would have to use a knife and fork to cut it.
The Shahjahan was very gingery and mostly a cream based sauce, no spice (the opposite of what we were recommended)
The naans were completely burnt, basically were crackers that we couldn't use for the curry.
Lastly, the Biryani was the struggle to get. As mentioned before, we were the only ones there at first so our order was put in well before anyone else even arrived. After getting the paneer, curry and naan, we noticed that another table had gotten their Biryani around the same time we should have gotten ours, so we asked and they said about 5 mins. At this point, we had already finished our meal and were just waiting. The 5 mins turned to 30 mins (50 mins since we ordered) and we needed to leave to make the long drive home. I asked the waitress to cancel the Biryani as at this rate, we were tired of waiting, but she said that they can't do anything about it and they can't cancel. We ended up just waiting for another 15 mins for it to come out along with another Biryani for a table that came half hour later than us. I'm guessing they push people to make the same order so that they can just make it all together, which would be fine if there isn't a huge gap from when they ordered.
Total time to get ALL your items to your table of 3 people: 1 HOUR 10 MINS.
Honestly, the servers just spend their time wiping the dishes and never once asked their customers if they need anything or provide any serving spoons for their dishes (we had to wait around 10 mins after we asked if we could get the 1 soda can that we ordered, heaven forbid we get a fresh jug of water)
TLDR: Orders take a ridiculously long time, food is...
Read moreWe are really blessed to have this restaurant in the heart of the city of Scarborough. I don't want to say negative comments for a new world renowned restaurant which is here for all. However, I have to notify certain things which we feel it is really not a good start. Firstly crowd and waiting times are common in any new restaurant and no complaint about that. Also, the restaurant is very small for the anticipated crowd for dine-in but the take-out waiting crowd is reaching until the door entrance which needs to address lately. Managing seems less experienced and serving for dine-in quite shocking. Not enough servers to handle the crowd. We tried ambur and Chennai biryani and chicken 65. Chicken 65 was so juicy and so tasty which remembered and realized the hometown masalaâs magic after very long time. Thanks for bringing the authentic ambur and Chennai biryani. The taste was amazing but one thing spice was horribly wrong and unexpected. We can feel the terrific spice on the very first sip of the rice. This is not due to masala but ginger-garlic was way too much and it was burning the stomach while eating and after an hour too. Nobody can tolerate this spice for sure. Especially kids can't handle a very small amount of this much spice in biryani. No complaints about quantity but the price obviously bit higher that's ok when starts a new restaurant in a new country. Over all it is amazing with some disappointments. Better try to satisfy customers by reducing the amount of spice and address some key issues which will help the restaurant run smoothly and successfully...
Read moreI might not have shared the same experience if I were to consider my opening day experienceđ. But huge shout out to the Priya, Althaf and Jabbar Bhai Canada team for making things right this time aroundđ. Ordered Chennai mutton Briyani and chicken 65. They didnât take much time rather it was ready in 15mins. Place order at 2.30PM and picked up around 2.45PM.
My huge concern during the opening day was that the portion size and meat quantity. Also my order was for a mutton Briyani but instead was served chicken Briyani due to a shortfall. Even the chicken Briyani wasnât making justice for the $17 price tag. Portion was merely adequate for one person. 2 meat pieces but it was only the bone that I was left with. Very pathetic service and overwhelmed team during the opening day.
However they had completely overcome that phase and seemed to be doing really well now!! đđź Went back as I had a small refund from my previous order. Ordered a mutton Briyani this time and was given the same. Taste was just amazing as usual for a Chennai Briyani lover. Salt and spice to the point. Meat cooked well and sufficient peices. Found literally 4 big chunks of mutton. The container was fully packed with rice and it holder two big servings. Chicken 65 was again extraordinary and finger licking. I feel that they have taken all the reviews into consideration and doing well to overcome the standard set.
I would ask people who have had bad experience earlier to share this with the team, so they are given a second chance to make it right for you. Iâm sure youâll...
