Heron Park Community Centre — Local services in Toronto

This has been one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had with a community centre. The manager responsible for permit applications is extremely unprofessional. I reached out multiple times via email and phone and received no response whatsoever.

I was only able to get a message through to him indirectly—through another staff member. Even then, there was no effort made to follow up with me directly. When I did get some form of communication, his attitude came across as rude, dismissive, and completely unapproachable.

It’s clear that he has little regard for the people he is meant to serve. Public-facing roles require professionalism, patience, and basic communication skills—none of which were demonstrated here.

Management should seriously reconsider who is representing their facility. Our community deserves better service and respect.

This is a nice community centre with two hockey rinks. I always see little kids with huge bags of hockey equipment with their parents coming in and out of there. There is a gym where kids play basketball and another gym where they teach ballet or have other activities. There is a very small youth lounge, but I don't know when it is open. I have not seen it being used when I am there on Saturday mornings. Maybe it is used during the week. The parking lot is always full. You can park in the adjacent library parking lot if you can't find parking at the community centre. It seems the community centre is more popular than the library. Today, September 12/2020 around 3:30 PM my daughter and her 3 cosins got kicked out from the swimming pool. I was told by the kids, that the staff/lifeguard in the pool offered them timbits in exchange the kids to go home. And then they were told to leave the pool on the pretext of misbehaving, after refusing to get the tidbits. The kids told also told me that they were the only kids in the pool when the got the timbits offer.

Could not believe the kids and I went with them back to the pool to speak with a supervisor.

The supervisor told me that they kicked out the kids because they were disrespectful to a staff. I asked her how? She could not give me any detail. She however admitted the kids were...
