It makes me sad to write this review. After much contemplation, I’ve decided I must share my experience. Firstly, the couple are great. They welcome you with a smile, are warm, courteous, friendly and actually very sweet. Now coming to the actual bit of haircut and colour. Both my haircut and hair colour were done to a substandard level. My hair looked unevenly cut with jagged ends. It was also very far from the style that I had requested. I had to later get it cut again by a professional just to have a clean cut with uniform ends. (so I had to pay to get a cut after I paid to get a cut) I have a lot of premature graying and wanted a colour as well. The gentleman started colouring my roots first and took over 50 minutes to finish the roots. By then my scalp had started feeling some type of way. The lady later very quickly started colouring the rest of my hair quite haphazardly. She took another 10 minutes to quickly just ruffle my hair with the colour. She wanted me to wait another 20 minutes for the colour to set in. I tried waiting for another 15 minutes (total time of 1 hour 20 minutes by now) till my scalp and eyes felt itchy. Almost felt like I was burning in peroxide hell. I requested for a wash. They tried drying my hair as much as they could with 3 hair dryers (I don’t have thick hair) but the dryers were so ineffective. Walked out in the cold winter night with wet hair :( On coming back home and inspecting my hair after drying it, I realised more than 50% of my hair was left uncoloured especially at the back and quite a lot on the left side of my head. So now, I have patches of uncoloured grey hair, patches of uncoloured ends :(((((( Thank God it’s the winter and I can hide inside a beanie. My husband’s cut too was longer at the back and shorter on the front, exact opposite of what he stated he wanted. My $150 went down the drain and I lost my precious 2.5 hours just sitting there and paying them to get shoddy work done. Anyway, I wish only well for the couple I wish them the best and hope that put better effort into getting good quality cut and dye done. I’ve had my hair dyed numerous times at good salons. You should never colour your hair in stages like this. Even if you want to colour the roots first, someone else will start with the ends, just to save the scalp...
Read moreI have been coming to yokoi for over ten yrs now. Prior to that I had jumped from salon to salon and I was never satisfied with the cuts I was getting. My hair doesn't make it easy either. It's naturally hay dry, wavy and difficult to manage. A styling nightmare. My ex had me try Ada's salon and I have been coming back ever since! Ada is amazing. She knows how to give any style u ask for. Any style! I can tell ada any crazy OCD issues I have about the way I want my hair trimmed and she always gives me the cut exactly the way I wanted it to look. She has an amazing attention to the smallest details, she never rushes u and she doesn't finish the cut until u r completely satisfied. Her husband, Richard, is also a very kind, gracious man and a great conversationalist. He will talk with me about politics, current events, business, funny tales of their travels, etc. It never feels like a chore to come here. It's an hour with two friends and I will continue to come to Yokoi Hair design until Ada finally locks her doors forever...which I hope is long after I'm gone or bald! Read moreI had a very disappointing experience at this salon. Ada , who seemed to be either Chinese or Japanese, treated me very poorly. Because my English is not very strong, I had to speak slowly, but she was not patient at all and did not listen to me properly. When it came time to pay, she told me they did not have a card machine and that I must pay with cash only. She barely did anything to my hair, yet insisted on cash payment. I asked her if I could e-transfer the money to her email, but she refused to give her email address. She spoke to me very rudely and even shouted at me. I offered to go to the bank to bring cash, but she wouldn't even let me leave. I was stuck at the salon for a long time because she didn’t trust me to come back with the money. Overall, it was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. This salon shows no respect to customers, and the level of professionalism was extremely low. I do not recommend it...
