The Overflow — Local services in Winnipeg

The store was clean and organized, there was a nice selection, the prices are insanely reasonable, and of course the store’s mission is amazing. However, I am a plus size woman, and this was the last place I expected to feel judged for my size. The only time I was spoken to was when I asked where the plus size clothes were. My slim friend who was with me was greeted nicely, asked frequently if she needed help, and would be checked on while in the dressing room. I never was. (Example: My friend was holding one item and was asked if she needed help. I was standing beside her with an armful of clothes and was not asked. The employee walked away before I could ask for help myself and I didn’t feel like chasing or calling after her as I was already feeling judged at this point.) I definitely would have purchased more if I felt like I was welcome. The store would have been wonderful but I don’t think I’ll be going...

I usually like to separate items I no longer use to donate, so I was carefully sorting the best items for this store. When I arrived, I was excited to drop off the box that I had cleaned, folded, and packed with great care. However, the experience was disappointing.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a lady at the reception who was quite aggressive. She asked if the clothes were clean, with no holes or stains—a very valid question, but her attitude was not. I answered yes and looked around, hoping to find some treasures, but I did not feel welcome to stay.

I should have just taken my box and taken it elsewhere. I won't be returning to that place. It was a bad experience, and I don’t think the staff even said thank you. My advice is to take your lovely clothes and donate them somewhere else or to friends. That’s a lesson I’ve...
