ATELIER C — Local services in Paris

We happily came across Atelier C while wandering the Viaduct des Arts, and enjoyed some fine artisan chocolate. I then saw on their website that they offer a variety of workshops - if you're a chocolate lover like me, or just want to learn more about chocolate, then I highly recommend a workshop. I did the 2.5 hour Chocolate Discovery workshop, and it was a lot of fun and quite informative, including the very interesting history of chocolate , an overview of the manufacturing process and all the different kinds of cocoa beans, an illuminating tasting process (very much like wine tasting!), some easy chocolate 'funneling' and 'decorating' with nuts and fruit (to take home), and a taste of very rare cocoa fruit juice. This was a very different and very French experience! At present it seems the workshops are only offered in French; however they kindly had an assistant there who was fluent in English, and really helpful in making sure I was understanding the content (I know very little French!). I took an Introductory Chocolate workshop and I had such an amazing time! The atelier is spacious, beautifully designed, and feels like a museum in itself! Christophe told us so many insightful chocolate anecdotes, and I learned all about how to taste chocolate, chocolate production, and the chocolate industry. All the chocolate we tasted was amazing and he gave us bonus samples that were not part of the initial five we had to try. The last portion of the workshop was when we got to create our own chocolates to take away - this was well organized, very efficient and fun, plus the beautiful packaging we were provided to take our creations home was a lovely touch. What an honour to learn the art of chocolate transformation with Maitre Chocolatier Christophe himself, widely reputed to be among the top master professionals in the art in Paris. My son and I took part in a chocolate workshop and learnt so much along the way. My only regret is that I didn't buy enough bars of chocolate afterwards (on top of those we made) - and I took home a lot! Savouring the chocolate afterwards is an experience in itself - the Atelier C chocolates are a sensory journey.
