UPDATED: Came back here for fish and chips with my wife last night, and the quality is not the same: Bought a portion of cod and haddock. The portion of chips was simply measly. No more than a handful of chips and all tiny cut chips what you couldnt even dip in the curry sauce because they were too short. The portion of fish was the smallest I've ever received anywhere, most fish and chip shops would give double the size fish, it was more like a fish goujon than an actual fillet of fish. When biting in to the battered fish, the fish was as thick as the chips, I mean talking about being tight. the fish was so thin that it had dried out from being fried. Then the portion of peas that came with it was simply laughable, without exaggeration, there was a teaspoon of peas, not even half way filling the tiny container it came in, my wife literally giggled out loud when she saw it. But why even waste containers for some peas and tartare sauce, just plop in next to the chips, no need for extra waste. We got two battered sausages, the quality of the sausage was very poor. The countertops for eating where sticky and dirty, i ran my nail across and there was just a layer of grease and dirty.
We spent almost €45 for two measly portions of fish and chips, one curry sauce, two sausages and two cans.
There was zero value for money here. With these portions I dont see anyone coming back. Considering my first experience and other recent reviews, people seem to love the place, It must have been a bad night but if the owners are just tightening up on everything, then this place wont last long with the current portions and quality.
As for the enviroment, it's a nice spot to grab a few beers across the road and McCurtain street has good vibes. Location is great, but drastic improvements needed.
OLD: Lovely tidy and clean restaurant serving up some amazing looking fish and chips. I opted for the double smash burger(only burger option). It was cooked to perfection, crispy bacon, nice Cheese, soft pickles and great sauce. It was up there with some of the best smash burgers in cork. Meat quality is superb. The chips were excellent too, fresh cut, crispy and fluffy. Homemade garlic sauce as well. From my experience, they have a small menu, keeping ingredients fresh and cooked to perfection, nothing over complicated. I Look forward to coming...
Read moreThis was my favorite fish 🐟 & Chip shop on Cork’s McCurtain street! However with the recent menu changes & the removal of the kimchi salad which I loved, it is now just a regular but over priced fish & chip shop. The service is still slow and when we ordered the prawns and chips and fish and chip with 2 cokes it came to a whopping €38. The street footpaths under their outdoor seating needs to be power washed as ur feet just stick. It reminds me of Washington street on a warm day. I don’t know why Cork retailers do not wash the footpaths outside their premises especially food places. So my previous rave 5 star reviews about eco fish have now slipped to a paltry washed out 2 ✨! This is because while it was always expensive the kimchi was a game changer and a modern twist on fish and chips. Having said that the fish was good, the prawns were tasty but messy with no side tray to put them in, but the chips were soggy! Please, please recalibrate! If you want to charge a whack for this food it has to be on point. Power washed the footpaths outside there! Best of luck - will check out in a few...
Read moreWe recently spent 3 nights in cork and ended up here 2 of the 3 nights. The staff was so lovely, and after I asked for a spice box with no meat or fish, I even heard them talking about putting extra veggies in for me (and I suspect they put extra chips, as I'm pretty sure I had more than my partner, who got a spice box with chicken). This was AMAZING for me as a vegetarian, when I am usually just eating less food for the same amount of money when asking for a dish with no meat. When we went back one of the same people was there from the first night, who recognized me and immediately asked if I wanted a spice box with no meat. I can't recommend them enough, especially if you are staying in one of the hotels nearby. The curry sauce was great and so were the pickled veggies (and the spice boxes were awesome)! Next time I'm in Cork I will be back....
