A local chipper, that's apparently popular with locals and also people passing by on the way home, we gathered.
While we were there, a waiter from Slattery's bar across the road came in to see if an order for scampi and chips was ready, so business seems good.
There's a standard chipper style menu, and the food is decent enough.
We thought we'd go mainstream and the battered 'fresh cod' is a sizeable portion.
However, rather than a tempura style or even crispy piece of cod, we got what might be described as a 'traditional' battered fish. It was heavy with flour, and didnt travel well to our hotel, ten minutes away.
If at home, we'd have given it a blast in the air fryer with a spray of sunflower oil, which might have imbued it with some crispness, but we resigned ourselves to nibbling more fish, than batter.
Good chips though, and they traveled reasonably well, and the portion size was good.

Fish was the cheapest kind I’ve ever seen, smelled like my granny down under and had the same yellow-greyish colour. Shame on you, fish and chips should of course be affordable, but semi frozen chips and stinky fish should never be the solution, shame on you. PS: already got diarrhea, worse than from Vietnamese food carts. The only thing missing is rats in the frier, but they probably would be an upgrade...
Read moreWhenever I used to cross this place, knew that the food would be good. From the outside, it's a small takeaway joint, however, what's amazing is the diverse menu and amazing food.
To top it all, it's a family-run place, giving it a big authenticity and also a very warm and homely touch to the food! Grazie! :D
(P.S. Do give the Doner kebab a try. It's a wholesome meal and they give it with, what I'd call, the best chips I've eaten...
