Any beach it's beautiful in general, as seeing the sea and feeling the nice breeze it's lovely. unfortunately you cannot enjoy any of this at Monterosso, as they do not offer any space for tourist, excepting the ones who are staying at those hotels( which are not so pretty and don't worth the money) or if you book in advance - but no one knows to tell you how to book in advance.

Thing is with these regions that you stay at a near by city and you take the train that gets you to each village, ( takes 10 min) including Monterosso, and you would like to come for few hours to enjoy the sea and the sun...But they don't let you stay anywhere, even if you would like to pay for the hours you are staying, and even as there were loads of free spaces, and in the same time they don't let you put your towel anywhere on the sand !!!

The staff it's unbelievable RUDE and and hush you like a dog from anywhere you would like to sit 5 minutes to watch the sea.

Veeeeey very bad management of the beach.

Doesn't...

The whole beach is a private beach...not free or enjoyable at all and the situation here violates the law. No-one can forbid you to sit in the seaside! We didn't know you should have a reservation to have a private spot, so we tried to find a spot on the "free" part of the beach which literally is 30 m2 in a beach that extends more than 1km. When tried to sit on the seaside literally 1-2 meters from the sea. Then the lifeguard came and send us and everyone else away although we weren't near the private umbrellas saying this is a private beach! Avoid going there if you don't have reservation or if you don't want to start a flight saying the obvious! IF ITS PRIVATE... I SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO HAVE ACCESS OTHERWISE ITS ILLEGAL TO NOT LET ME SIT...

I came on a Wednesday around 14:00 in October. There were plenty of sun chairs available and there were not a ton of people in the water. The beach is clean, no rubbish or seaweed in the way. It was the perfect way to kill some time after a hot morning hike until dinner. Very easy to take the train from elsewhere and be steps to the beach.

While this beach is sandy, there are short stretches that are very pebbly, a bit difficult to walk on if your feet are sensitive. I did the un-graceful hot coal dance over the rocks, while others cleverly wore water shoes.

€10/person flat fee for the day.

Bring your own towels.

Optional but really nice to bring your own picnics.

I saw a lifeguard boat but no actual lifeguard on duty...

Very disappointed by the way this very nice beach is organized. Might be specific to Covid-19 time though. 3 parts in the beach: a free part organized in squares, but only 30 lots, so be (very very) patient! An extensive paying part with blue parasols: pay 15 to 30 EUR. And an as much extensive part with red parasols which is private: reserved for the season I was told, although most of the seats were empty! All in all, we just wanted to spend 1h in the sea after a straining hike in the hills and it was almost impossible to find a space. Private seats take up too much space! Very disappointing. Bad experience. (Note: beach material is not really sand, but rather small pebbles. not comfortable to the bare feet at all)

The town of Monterosso Al Mare is either the first or the fifth of the five Cinque Terre towns, depending on whether you travel by train or boat from La Spitzia or Levanto. As with the other towns, the brightly coloured buildings are constructed in a valley and make for breathtaking photographs. The beach is beautiful and you can hire a sunbed and umbrella for the day or dine at a beach restaurant. Walking the track between the towns is fun but challenging and I suggest buying a pass the day before and avoid the midday crowds. There is a stunning church here and also a small chapel. Highly recommend
