Isola dei Pescatori (meaning Fishermen’s Island) is an island in Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. As the most northerly of the three principal Borromean Islands it is also known as Isola Superiore and, with a population of 25 in 2018, it is the only one to be inhabited all year round. Unlike Isola Bella and Isola Madre, the island has never belonged to the Borromeo family. The island is about 375 metres long by 100 metres wide. A narrow street running along its spine is joined by cobbled alleys to the promenade that encircles the island. The promenade is frequently flooded and the houses built against it are constructed to allow for this. The church of San Vittore (Victor the Moor) retains traces of an ancient chapel that was probably constructed for the monks of Scozzòla (an abbey of San Donato di Sesto Calende founded by Liutardo, bishop of Pavia, in the mid ninth century. Fantastic tiny island in Lake Maggiore. It's well worth a visit. OK, you can walk all around it in probably 45 minutes, but it's worth the visit to see the views of the other islands, and after you have walked around the outside, then venture into the inside with narrow streets and neat shops. Many places to eat and have a drink but would recommend "The New Bar" on the far side of the island You can either eat in the main restaurant set up above the shore or in their actual Lake side area. [ ... era il 2017 quando ho visitato il versante piemontese del Lago Maggiore ed in quella occasione ho avuto modo di visitare le bellissime Isole Borromee.... ... l' isola dei Pescatori, conosciuta anche come Isola Superiore, od Isola dei Pescatori come è chiamata dai locali, è l'unica dell'arcipelago delle Borromee nel Lago Maggiore (comune di Stresa) ad essere stabilmente abitata....

... Ospita un piccolo borgo, dai caratteristici vicoli stretti e dalle caratteristiche case a più piani (con lunghi balconi per essiccare il pesce), con una piazzetta, il lungolago e la via principale per permettere gli spostamenti rigorosamente a piedi dei suoi 19 abitanti che vivono di pesca e turismo.....

... È abitata da almeno 700 anni l'isola dispone di una parrocchia dedicata a san Vittore e un belvedere alberato dal lato opposto....

.... in estate gode di una grande affluenza di visitatori che passeggiano nei vicoli e comprano oggetti di artigianato locale nel piccolo e caratteristico mercatino....

... a Ferragosto si celebra la processione della statua della vergine Maria su una barca intorno alle isole, circondata da numerosi natanti di turisti e di abitanti della zona....

Insomma una piccola perla di lago da...
