I'm not sure about the rest of the flights and the procedure at the gates here; but I will review the actual experience we had with our flight. This review cannot reflect on the entire airport as a whole, as it was a single flight at 1 gate, on a given day, maybe it's different at the other gates etc., I cannot say.
On Monday Sept 16th, 2024, we flew from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Calgary Alberta, (a usual connection to make an international connection) to then catch a flight to Paris, then to our final destination of Venice, Italy. On this day, we had a delay of about a half hour, and then we got the flight to Paris.
Upon arrival, the next flight, was again delayed, and we managed to finally board, about a half hour late. With that said; it was not that cut & dry, when we first landed in Paris, we had to deplane, with our carry on luggage etc, and make our way down a set of stairs, from the plane, to a waiting bus, that bus would take us to the airport for our connecting flight. Once we got in to the airport, we now had to hoof it to gate F41, which happened to be at the opposite end of the airport! After we finally made it all the way there, (we always want to check where the gate is first, before we decide to eat or whatever, if there is time.) We decided to head down the escalator to check it out. For any traveller's heading to gate F41, at the Charles de Gaulle airport in France, if there is time before your flight; shop, eat, get your water, buy your duty free liquor, whatever, before you head to that gate! I say this, because we headed down the escalator to that gate, and that was all that was down there! Sure there was a bathroom, but the free water station to fill up your water bottle, was not working, and that was it, just the gate.
So then we decided to head back up to the level above, to buy a coffee, eat, shop at the liquor store, etc., as all that stuff was right there, before the escalator to go down to that gate!
We now regretted, heading down to gate F41 before doing all our shopping, because we were now faced with lugging our carry on's and extra baggage, up a very long staircase, to get back up to that level! They had 2 escalators going down, but only stairs to get back up! After the whole debaucle of lugging our stuff off the plane, this double sucked!
We thought it was over, but old Charlie (French airport) had other ideas... once we finally were able to board, we again, had to board a bus back to the plane, but this time, we had to drag our luggage UP, a winding staircase to get back on the damn plane again! This was ridiculous! If I was unable, this would have been terrible! Would I have to forfeit the flight, if I was physically not strong enough to jump through all those hoops? I feel bad for all the elderly folks, who would have found that whole experience a complete disaster! I never heard of such a thing? Has anyone else had this happen at this airport? Is this normal in these parts? Totally ridiculous! I do NOT recommend this event to anyone, except the young...
Read morethis airport is absolutely the worst airport i have ever flown in in my entire life. so disorganized and nobody can do their job. flight was at 9:25 pm so my dad and i got to the airport at 5:15 pm. just going to reiterate, that is over 4 hours before our flight would leave. most flights on the boards were delayed (now i clearly understand that they were delayed because half of the passengers were not on those flights!). sat in some chairs on the lower floor of the airport until 7:30 (first time our flight info popped up on the board). waited on a check-in line for an HOUR only to learn that it wasn't for our flight (no signs or announcements because this is a "silent airport", which may sound nice but it leaves you with no clue as to whats happening). moved to the correct line only for the check-in staff to take over ten minutes to print two boarding passes. we were not checking bags, just needed boarding passes. moved upstairs to security (now running because our flight leaves in 40 minutes) and see a huge waiting area for security which ive never seen before. my dad told the staff what was happening and we skipped the waiting line and got to the security line (the one thing they did right was let us skip). 3 out of roughly 15 gates were open so we were barely moving. no room at all in security. got through and had to navigate the very poorly structured airport (no signs and the few signs there were were extremely vague). got to the (empty of course) gate and staff basically shrugged and told us (now were with 7 other people, so its not just "us") it was our fault and they couldnt do anything. we went back to the easyJet desk downstairs and got directed to a desk upstairs that isnt even under the easyJet name. the woman working there was no help. didnt offer a hotel, refund, new tickets, points for the airline, etc. she shrugged and told us the next flight to manchester was in two days. now im sitting in this airport at 10:30 at night with nowhere to sleep and 7 other people that are very aggravated. the other people have told my dad and i that this has been common with easyJet for them in the past (their flight got cancled due to weather and they never got a refund), but the airport itself is also absolutely at fault. if you people hired workers that actually knew what they were doing and stopped trying to be a "silent airport" (because that just doesnt work), maybe this issue would be fixed. highly upset and i discourage anyone reading this from using this airport in the future.
side note: multiple people were yelling to the police and MILITARY on the sidelines of security because they werent moving and they were being squished, and a police officer took a call right infront of me and turned away. no care for the wellbeing of anyone or for the safety of...
Read moreI flew out of this airport and I arrived at the airport early, as I always do for flights. I went to check my bag and discovered that it wasn’t open until 4 am. As people were already there, and more were starting to arrive, no one knew where to go or stand because there were no lines. The airlines were not clearly labeled.
Finally, a lady was loading the counters, and people asked her repeatedly where a certain airline was. She simply replied, “I don’t know.”
It was 4 am, and no one was working yet. Around 4:15 am, people started coming out, and everyone rushed to the lines they thought were their correct ones.
To pay for an extra bag, they keep your passport and instruct you to go to the main entrance to another window. Then, you return to them without standing in the line, which probably angers others because you’re cutting in line.
The gentlemen working the counter for the payment said that she must have been typing the wrong information because she sent me to his counter. I informed him that she didn’t even attempt to take my payment. He said that if that’s typical, it’s a third-party company that manages all the lines for bags, unlike other airports where each airline manages its own lines.
The other peculiarity was that the gates weren’t announced until about a half hour before boarding. Consequently, everyone gathered in the coffee area to watch the screen for their flight gates. This was another odd occurrence, as normally, there would be designated gates for flights, but only a few would be displayed...
