You’re not allowed to drive to the top yourself and are forced to park at a designated lot, which costs 1,000 yen. Before you even reach the parking area, someone tries to charge you an additional “hiking fee” of 4,000 yen per person. This is done in Japanese, making it seem like a required fee — but it’s only necessary if you plan to hike all the way to the summit.

After that, you still need to buy a separate ticket for 3,000 yen per person to continue.
