Tucked away in a quiet little spot, this cosy eatery feels like a hidden gem. The drive to get here was worth it, as the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with a warm and homey vibe. The place operates out of a charming little house, where the owner cooks everything right in front of you at the bar. It’s a truly intimate and interactive dining experience with and by the locals that I love!
The seating is limited, with space for a few groups and a bar counter, so it’s best to come early or expect a wait. Ventilation isn’t the best, but honestly, it just adds to the authenticity. The menu is entirely in Japanese, but the kind owner was happy to help us navigate it verbally. She even shared that their specialty is Monjayaki, a Tokyo-style dish, which we just had to try!
We ordered the Yakisoba Okonomiyaki, Squid Okonomiyaki, and the Seafood Monjayaki with Mentaiko. Watching the owner work her magic was mesmerising—she mixed the batter and ingredients in a small bowl with precision, adjusting the heat to keep everything warm as we ate. It felt so personal, like we were being cooked for in someone’s home.
The food? Absolutely delicious. The Okonomiyaki was everything you’d want: flavourful, hearty, and full of texture.
The Monjayaki, on the other hand, was an entirely new experience. Its stew-like consistency, eaten with tiny spatulas, was comforting and unique. While I personally prefer the firmer texture of traditional Okonomiyaki, I can appreciate the rustic & cultural charm of Monjayaki.
And let’s not forget the beer. Straight from the tap, it was crisp and refreshing—just what you need to pair with these savoury dishes.
This little eatery is more than just a meal; it’s an experience. 🥰 The owner’s vibe, the cosy atmosphere, and the niche food make it special.
If you’re looking for something authentic and memorable, this is the place. I left feeling full, happy, and grateful for the experience....
