I was unfamiliar with and made a mistake (missed a zero) when calculating the Yen equivalent of my local currency and thought the cost was much lower than their astronomical prices (around 280,000 yen per night). The hotel is very nice indeed, but given the cost of other InterContinental hotels, this level of rip-off could not have even occurred to me. Unfortunately, and bad on me, I realized my mistake a day or two after signing the bill. It simply never occurred to me that it could be this expensive for one night in a very average resort.||I reached out both to the parent company and the hotel itself. The parent company said they do not control the hotel. This was a shock to me, and they told me to contact the hotel directly.||I tried the hotel numerous times, both by phone and email. No answer of the phone and no response to numerous emails. Is this what you would expect from an InterContinental? ||After numerous re-calls to the parent company, they saw my point of view and were able to contact the hotel. But the hotel completely misunderstood my point. All they said was that the price quote was correct, end of story. ||But that wasn't the point. The point is that most people who take family trips can't afford these prices, and given such an unreasonable cost and unfamiliarity with the currency, it is at least easy to see that this was an honest and truthful mistake on my part. And the hotel failed to ever respond directly to me...to the point that when I called back the parent company, they claimed now that the hotel management couldn't speak English. Certainly this wasnt true when they were helping me by email with directions before my trip and when they needed money from me.||So my biggest concern is really about the hotel management. Not one attempt to speak to me. Not even one acknowledgement of the situation. Instead, a cowardly ducking and lack of response and failure to engage, as a person who values customer service should. My issue could have been addressed through some form of outreach from the hotel. I admitted that I had made a mistake. The points are that, one, you should be careful that the cost of this hotel is unreasonably out of line with other InterContinental hotels, even in major cities, and, two, expect the cowardly management to be, on the one hand, fine with what they are comfortable with and, on the other hand, pretend not to speak English and avoidant when it comes to any level of customer service that would require engagement and service from the customer's point of view. For this, while the hotel is very nice, you're on your own if you have a problem. Beware of the cost and beware of poor...
Read moreVERY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE.|During the first two nights of our stay, nearly no staff at the hotel could communicate with us in English. We could only communicate with one Indian employee at the front desk, but her English skills were limited, which caused multiple mistakes with our restaurant reservations. Additionally, many other issues arose due to the language barrier. One day, the hotel had a complete power outage, and there was no hot water, which caused significant inconvenience for us.||What was most unacceptable, however, was the behavior of a manager at their restaurant Hareyama Yoshitaka, who was extremely arrogant and condescending. When we asked about the wine selection at the restaurant, he told us that their restaurant is very expensive and high-end, so they do not sell cheap wines. He was rude and aggressively stopped us from accessing the wine cellar. Based on our casual attire and the fact that we are young Asian women, he likely assumed that we couldn't afford their food and wine. In fact, one of our friends has a wine collection at home that is possibly 2-3 times larger than what their "high-end restaurant" offers, and we didn't find the restaurant's pricing to be particularly extravagant. we simply do not understand where his "arrogance"is coming from.|| his arrogant attitude made us feel as though he considered himself the owner of the restaurant and that we were his staff. I sincerely recommend that guests who are willing to spend the same amount of money visit Prakhy* in Niseko instead. Their service and the quality of the hotel far exceed what we...
