青銅の神馬は、寛文７年（１６６７）に毛利綱廣（毛利輝元の孫）により奉納されました。 制作したのは京都の職人名越弥七郎藤原三知。 制作の顛末が「神恩記」に記されています。 神恩記によると、鋳造にあたって、弥七郎の妻は妊娠中だったため、神馬が完成前に産火の穢れがないようにと、大社の神様に日夜お祈りしたとのこと。 その甲斐あって妊娠期間は１３カ月に及び、神馬が首尾よく完成したところで、まるまる肥えた元気な男児を安産しました。 この故事から、子宝を授かる安産を願って、鼻のあたりを撫でられていきます。 ところで、弥七郎の祖父は、天下の名人と呼ばれた名越少掾藤原三昌。 豊臣秀頼が京都東山方広寺に寄進した梵鐘を制作した人です。 「国家安康　君臣豊楽」の文字に家康からイチャモンを...
