Went on a Sunday and heard four bands ranging from quite good through amazing. The first band was an eagles tribute band that fought through some really challenging monitor issues, some Japanese to English pronunciation calisthenics, and still put on a good show. Harmonies are super difficult when you can't hear yourself clearly, but they powered through. The second band did mostly covers, but had a much more open sound so fewer monitor problems. The lead vocalist clearly was fluent in english which made the chosen songs, including a Dua Lipa cover, work well. The third and fourth bands get separate paragraphs...

The third band played a straight set of Jeff Beck covers. For the non- musicians out there, Jeff Beck was one of the top 5-10 best guitarists of all time, so go ahead and skip the rest... knowing that this band could cover Beck is enough, and they did. Worth a trip to see them alone. For the musicians: 4 piece band with a guest soloist, all excellent technically. The main guitarist was amazing... clean, precise, superhero technically competent. The guest soloist would get my nomination for one of the top 5 female guitarists of all time. She was channeling Beck, and i think it might have been an orgasmic experience. Lord knows the audience got a little close as well. She had the technical chops to play perfectly and precisely, but chose to go her own way. She squeezed notes and sounds out of her strat that bordered on the obscene... that poor thing needs an apology and a kiss goodnight, but it gave back as good as it got. But when she needed technical perfection, she had it to give... when the two guitarists played a harmonized set of chords for around 26 bars, they were flawless... seriously, flawless. That's like 3000 perfect notes coming out of two guitars in about a minute... thank God it was in Japan where you can still get a cigarette when you need one... and we all could have used one, and no, I don't smoke. Lol.

So if I was in the 4th band, I think I might have just laid the fiddle at Johnnie's feet, but they were like "oh hell no". This time a conventional 5 piece...4+lead vocal. They opened with "fortunate son" by creedence, and never looked back. The whole band was tight and amazing, but the lead vocalist was insanely good, and the harmonies from behind the keys were flawless. Vocally, it wasn't a fair fight... these were two seasoned pros from the states who obviously had spent decades perfecting their craft. Could have used just a smidgen more cow bell, but damn. Lol.

Put it all together, and you get an evening full of luscious with a cherry on top. Worth a special trip from anywhere... assuming that next week's pickings maintain the level and this wasn't just a one time awesome sauce.

Drinks and food...meh, but who...

My friends and I played at Chicken George for the first time last weekend, and had the best time! Their PA system is the best I've played at in Osaka and Kobe and the people working it know their craft. They'll also record audio of your event for free! The backstage area is huge and well-lit and they also provide a refrigerator for snacks and drinks. The bar is well-stocked and they do have a kitchen for bar food. Smoking isn't allowed by the stage, but you can smoke by the stage. Definitely recommend for any musicians coming to the...

Drinks and food...meh, but who cares. Rock on.
