Staying at the buddhist temple overnight was one of the highlights from our trip to Japan. It was very special to participate in the morning ceremony. Our room was very spacious and we had a beautiful view on the gorgeous garden. Dinner and breakfast was very delicious and served in a private room, which was a very special setting. We also used the onsen. Everything was a very nice and traditional experience which we are very grateful for. Staying overnight in Koyasan also gives you the opportunity to visit the graveyard after sunset which has a very magical atmosphere. And in the morning you are there before the day tourists arrive and have it almost to yourself. We stayed at the temple for one night, I wish we could have stayed two nights.

We felt super grateful to be able to stay at this temple. Upon arrival we were greated by the monks who did the check-in and showed us to our room. The room was rather specious and very clean, typical Japanese ryokan style. We were able to go into the onsen, but only at night (till 8pm), no bathing in the morning. We had Shojin ryori (dinner and breakfast) and it was delicious. The meals were nicely presented and full of good flavors. We were invited for the morning ritual at 6am and it was a real honor to be able to do that. Thank you for that! Too bad we were only able to stay for one night, if possible I will go back for sure and maybe even try to meditate.
