We had an exceptional time at Karigan. It is a perfectly formed gem.
This traditional house has been elegantly renovated by hosts, Rika and Shimo, and offers a chance to experience a real taste of Japanese heritage. The house is true to it’s history while having contemporary, and beautiful, conveniences.
The attention to detail is reflected in the way they host: Full of thoughtful touches we were greeted with matcha and cakes on our arrival and an overview of Kyoto (there are thorough guides for local eating and visiting in the house). Rika and Shimo, who live locally, remained on-call going out of their way to answer questions, make recommendationd, reserve restaurants and book taxis. Communication was excellent before and during our stay.
The Tokyo bikes are a stylish addition and the best way to see Kyoto.
The location is a little North of the Imperial Palace and all the better for being away from the hustle and bustle of the regular tourist locations. There is some excellent local places to eat and Kyoto is easy to navigate wherever you are.
Thank you...
