Noodles are nothing extravagant but very flavorful. Worth every penny especially considering how difficult it is to transport things up here (I don't see car paths, and we have seen some interesting but still painful transportation small mobiles trekking on these steps).
The view is awesome too if you can manage a window seat, overseeing Kyoto below.
Highly recommend visiting and getting lunch here on the way down after the hike. And picture yourself as a pilgrim in the old times (without the tourist crowds), what a welcoming sight this Chaya is, to rest your tired legs with tea and noodle... And a breeze to escape from the summer heat as sweat drifts down after the long walk...

Read moreLocated inside the shrine and in a good spot when you needed a refresher or a snack after lots of stairs and hiking around the shrine. They have full meals, beverages and soft serve ice cream. We decided to get the combination - lemon soda and vanilla but regretted it and should have gotten vanilla instead 🤣. The lemon soda is just sour, not lemon flavor at all.
Anyway, it still helped us cool down. You can also see a good view of Kyoto...

The soft serve ice cream had an interesting flavor, soy bean flour I think. the ice cream and water were fine, but overpriced. there is a nice seating area nearby for paying customers and around a corner is a beautiful shot of Kyoto ... Definitely worth taking a picture from this area before proceeding further up...
