the only menu available is hot/cold Amazake (a traditional sweet, low-alcohol, or non-alcoholic drink made from fermented glutinous rice). it comes with a tiny spoon of grated ginger which you'll mix with the amazake and a cup of warm green tea. the amazake was sweet but not overly sweet, the grated ginger also added extra fragrance and warmth to it. with a tiny bits of glutinous rice, it was more like drinking (?) soft and watery rice porridge than a beverage, but, it was delicious!
we came here by accident while I'm looking for a small shrine that we visited 5 years ago, but, stumbled upon this place instead. this well-hidden and easily missed shop is owned and managed by a nice and kind grandmother.
finding this shop could be a little bit tricky especially if you're not paying attention to the surrounding. when you exit the Fushimi Inari Shrine, there will be a big golden Kanon/Avalokiteshvara holding child with smaller Jizo/Ksitigarbha statues around it on your right, just across that statues there will be small path (that will be on your left) with the sign/menu written in Japanese and English, just follow that path and you'll find this place. when we were there it was empty and no one else but us. we thought the shop closed but it wasnt, you might want to say anything just to notify the owner and she will come out...

You ring the bell, or sumimasen really loudly, as the proprietor is in the back. And she is delightful. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, a warming rice drink white is delightfully slightly sweet to which you add ginger. The ginger balances it so well and makes it slightly tingly on the lips but also even...
Read moreA must go after you exit the shrine. It’s on the path out but it’s also a little hard to find so I’m adding a video to show that it’s across from a golden statue. Tea house is on the left as you exit. They only serve 1 thing - the fermented rice drink (amazake) for 350 yen plus complimentary tea. The drink is non-alcoholic and is a lovely sweet rice drink. We had it piping hot and it was delicious mixed with ginger.
The shop owner is in the back so you have to yell for them...
