Tōdai-ji Kaidan-in (Kaidan Hall) was a peaceful and underrated stop within the Tōdai-ji complex. Founded in the mid-8th century, it served as the place where monks received their official ordination into the Buddhist precepts. The temple grounds were beautifully maintained, with raked gravel and a quiet, reflective atmosphere - especially nice since there were barely any tourists around. I stopped by the goshuin counter and got another stamp for my collection while taking cover from the rain. It was a calm, contemplative visit and a nice break from the busier areas nearby.

The Kaidan Hall at Todaiji Temple is one of the most incredible wooden buildings I’ve ever seen. The size and craftsmanship are breathtaking – it's hard to believe something so massive and detailed was built so long ago. The atmosphere is peaceful and deeply spiritual, making the experience even more meaningful. A must-visit if you're in Nara.

Aside from the Great Buddha, Todaiji Temple is home to numerous national treasures and cultural assets, and so the temple itself was registered as a Historic Monument of Ancient Nara by the UNESCO World Heritage Convention Centre
