The end result was good and I am happy with the visual result.
The only reason I am giving it a 3* is because I know a bit about hairdressing. I have naturally black, thick hair and have it dyed silver. So I have to take very good care of it and know what I am doing to maintain it without it all falling out.
I went to have my roots done, I always look for somewhere that adds olaplex as it does make a difference when added to the bleach and the no 2 treatment is left on for 10-20 minutes as advised.
When applying bleach it needs to be on the growth only (roots). Overlap is when the bleach goes over what has already been processed in the past and causes breakage. There was a yellow band around my root which could be tackled 2 ways, with bleach or a toner. If it is bleach then it needs to be a much lower peroxide to avoid that damage.
My hair usually takes 6 hour because it’s so thick and long. I was out in 2.5, which for some people is potentially a good thing as no one is wants to sat in a seat that long! Although for the health of your hair it is necessary. The way it was able to be done this quickly is due bleach being extra strong and not being carful to only get the root when applying it. I am usually sat for an hour with bleach on but it went blonde in 15 minutes. There was overlap that went down about 7cm after the root and was the same bleach. I don’t know if no 2 olaplex was applied. I did look quickly as I could see what pumps they were using and couldn’t see no 2. I was never left in the basin so if it was used, it wasn’t left on. I am also familiar with the scent but who knows. Maybe it’s been transferred in to a different bottle but the bottles that olaplex supply for hairdressers are 2000ml and do come with a pump but I can’t say for sure that they didn’t use. You can get travel ones in 525ml. I did pay an extra for olaplex but I don’t know if I got no 1 as that is added to the actual bleach.
It is quite simple and any hairdresser can get black to white with a high enough peroxide, but it will be pretty damaged and maybe fall out.
I think it is super over priced for the lack of knowledge and care taken to maintain the health. Doing 2.5 hour worth of work than 6 for the same price makes sense from a business point of view. I paid ¥39,000 which is about the same maybe slightly more than what I usually pay for 6 hours.
Edit after seeing response: I have had blonde hair for 8 years
Retouching roots could take 30 mins although it is not realistic if you are being carful not to overlap the bleach
I usually see a lady who has won gold in the wella trendvision so I don’t doubt that she know what she is doing. 40 years experience is great but I am only comparing because of the price being similar
I was not left in the basin for 10- 20 mins as advised by olaplex and the cost was ¥5000
The lady I saw was lovely and I don’t think it’s completely her fault. I feel that she is potentially pressured with the time that she needs to compete the service. For the customer and the business. Like I say, the result was good and it was quick, so if you have pretty healthy hair and are not too concerned about the breakage then you...
Read moreBooking an appointment was very easy and they replied fairly quickly instead of having to wait a couple of days for a reply. Oh if you take the Namboku Line and get off at Azabu-Juban Station, get out at exit 2 and the salon is near 7/11!
I LOVE THIS PLACE and all the staff were so friendly!! I had Lana doing my hair and she was so absolutely incredible and sweet!! Love her!! I would definitely come back and do my whole head here if I didnt live in another country lol MY HAIR TURNED OUT SO BEAUTIFUL AND SOFT!!
I 100% believed and trusted in her. She made me feel very at ease! This was the first time ever bleaching or colouring my hair at a salon so I was not too educated about what needed to be done lol She wanted me to be happy with the outcome and I really appreciated that!
Oh yeah the shampooing always felt so nice and relaxing that I almost dozed off a few times hahaha Everything they did to my hair was super gentle!! My hair was feeling like silk, it was amazing!! I usually wash my hair with Olay body soap or Lush shampoo bars so I was impressed!!

Read moreI would highly recommend Gold Salon to anyone struggling to find a good stylist in Tokyo. I tried going to some Japanese local hair salons before, but due to my mediocre Japanese or potentially their unfamiliarity with my hair type, the results were usually not what I wanted. But now I've come several times to Gold and Coco has always done an amazing job. She's super patient and understanding, and at my last visit she really helped me select the best color for me when I wasn't really sure what I wanted. She really takes her time to make sure you're on the same page, and her experience abroad often shows in how she is able to adapt to varying hair types. The salon in general also has a great vibe. The aesthetics are chic, modern, and clean. For an expat who often feels a bit out of place, it's really comforting to go somewhere that has a familiar feel to it. I'd highly recommend Gold Salon and Coco to anyone, but especially to any expats who are struggling to find a stylist who...
