I had ten days in Japan and ummed and ahhed about coming to Kinosaki. I'm so glad I did. It's amazing, if you don't like getting naked with strangers of the same sex or fish it's probably not for you though. Note though that you have from toddlers to 80 year olds going so really nothing to be shy about.||So Asagoya Ryoken - my ratings have gone from 3 to 5 stars. ||Didn't start brilliantly as I arrived at just before 1pm on the train from Kyoto and there was no-one at the hotel. I rang and rang the doorbell and after 20 minutes the owner came rushing down apologising that he was upstairs cleaning. No harm done but probably worth emailing him your arrival time so no mistakes again. He made me fresh proper coffee and was very very apologetic.||It's a great location and obviously good value for money.||The room was large and simple - this is a much cheaper comparatively place to stay in Kinosaki so what I expected for the cost. I didn't like not having a sheet under (only simple mattress protector below) or above me between me and the blanket so used my own sleeping bag liner. This might be fine for others though. ||The owner carefully explained all the onsens - my tip would be to head for the outside ones, they are seriously hot!||He also recommended a good restaurant that evening and when I couldn't find it walked me to it (it was closed) and then another.||The owner, like other reviewers, offered me a trip the next morning after more onsen time up the coast to see Todo Cave and lots of the lovely scenery. This was wonderful and you should take him up on this. This was an amazing thing to do for free and took over an hour of his time. He even bought me a drink en route. ||When back at Kinosaki he offered me a lift to the station (just 3 minutes so I declined), and then came dashing to find me after I left with a pair of trainers he thought I'd left. ||Genuinely stand out...
Read moreMe and my Husband stayed here for 5 nights in April 2025 during our honeymoon. We had an amazing time and it is a memory that we will cherish forever. From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent. The whole team were welcoming, polite and smiling and catered to our every need. We were welcomed with a pot of tea and snack while we were checked in, followed by afternoon tea in the lounge, an amazing 3 course meal every dinnertime (sashimi boat, steamed food, tajima beef and dessert) and then every evening there was cake and rosé wine in the foyer and open bar until 2am. The whole experience is incredibly luxurious.
Since we stayed 5 nights, the hostess arranged for us to have different meals every night, bringing in specialised chefs to cook meals for me and my husband so that we could taste a variety of delicacies. We also were given different cakes every day for afternoon tea taken from the popular bakeries around town.
Breakfast was served beautifully and included a set menu as well as buffet. After a few days, we were offered western style breakfast as a break from the Japanese style. Drinks were available throughout the morning until Check-out time.
Most other customers stayed one or two nights. As we stayed longer, we were able to try all onsens in the town and visit various local sites like takeno beach and sake breweries in Kyotango. We also highly recommend the Kinosaki straw craft museum and onsen-ji temple.
Overall the experience was delightful and a great highlight of our trip! We are incredibly grateful to all the staff of tokitotoki,...
Read moreTokitotoki Hotel is truly a design dream and one of the best stays I’ve ever had. The attention to detail is out of this world. From the moment we arrived, everything felt special — the lobby smells beautiful, the staff greeted us warmly (and speak excellent English), and the atmosphere was instantly relaxing.
The hotel offers two private onsens, which felt luxurious and serene. Throughout the day, there are little touches that make the experience unforgettable: a tea service every few hours, a traditional matcha service, and complimentary beverages including sake and wine. In the evenings, they even serve rosé and dessert — such a thoughtful detail!
Our room was spotless, the beds extremely comfortable, and the overall design was both modern and soothing. Guests are given a yukata to wear around town, which really adds to the authentic onsen experience.
Breakfast was a highlight: we tried both the Western-style and the traditional Japanese breakfast, and both were excellent.
The hotel is also perfectly located — within walking distance of the ropeway and just a quick 10-minute train ride to the charming seaside town of Takeno. Plus, the stay includes a free pass to all six of the public bathhouses in Kinosaki, which made it easy to experience the full onsen culture.
Every moment at Tokitotoki felt thoughtful, warm, and memorable. I can’t recommend it highly enough for anyone visiting...
