We booked Tsuruya in Kinosaki for 2 nights in May mid-week and stayed as a couple. Highly recommended for forgein guests.||The owner was so friendly and helpful to us, their service really made our stay. ||I would recommend Tsuruya if you'd like to stay in a traditional ryokan; and the price is more reasonable than other ryokans in Kinosaki (still not cheap). Includes tickets to all onsens.||We arrived at 3pm, where we got the bus to the ryokan. Otherwise it's a 15 minute walk. When we arrived at the ryokan, we changed into slippers and they helped us take our bags to the room. We were then served hot green tea (bag which we prefer) and Japanese biscuit. The owner/manager explained in English which onsens were open/closed when (as usually close Tue/Wed), how the gowns should be worn, and agreed when breakfast would be served.||They have a family bath available. On the second night they drew it for the two of us, which was lovely since you cannot bath together in the onsens. It was hot! ||The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Japanese breakfast the first morning (fish, egg tart, salad, plums, beans, orange, tea and more); and Western the second (fried egg, ham, salad, chicken nuggets I think for hash brown, potato salad, cereal, fruit and yoghurt, plus coffee). Bless them they must have been up early making all of that for us! ||I believe there are a variety of different sized rooms. Most rooms have shared toilet facilities in the hallway. We were lucky enough to get a large room (206), with a dressing room, toilet, main room (tea and beds), small wardrobe and paneled area with two chairs and a sink and fridge by the window. They made up the futons for us; they were quite comfortable. The pillow was a little hard for us. It was a traditional type made of bean bag like material. The room was simple but decorated well, with a few signs of wear.||I liked the location because there were onsens available close by for a quick dip and also plenty of bars and restaurants close by. It is located the opposite end of town from the train station. When we visited the onsens at the other end of town we made plenty of stops on route as it takes longer to walk in the sandals.||If you can, just bring a small bag (for aesthetic purposes). We've travelling for a few months so unfortunately had big packs so they can sit in your room but you can't store away a big bag.||We really enjoyed staying for two nights in Kinosaki as we were able to try all of the onsens; but you could easily visit in one night, visiting the onsens when you arrive and the next morning. ||Note that when it's quiet in town like when we visited, most bars, restaurants and cafes shut between 5-7pm. ||For the money you pay, friendly service and excellent breakfast I'd definitely recommend this ryokan to anyone staying...
Read moreWe stayed for 2 nights from 12th December 2024 for 3 pax. Our room is on level 2 facing the front. We have reserved for dinner and breakfast. First night dinner was crab theme with grilled and steam crabs. They were delicious. We ordered hot sake since outside temperature is around 7°C. Second night dinner was beef theme with grilled and shabu shabu, it was delicious too. We were served by Emerson with great service. Morning breakfast for first day was at a nice cafe formerly a fire station, Utsuroi Tsuchya Annex Cafe. The place has great vibes, modern and nice toast set breakfast. There’s an art gallery too, a cosy ambiance. Second day breakfast was in the ryokan Japanese style, equate delicious. As we drove threes a complementary parking which the hotel attendant guides us, near to the rope way station. We made use of the Onsen Pass provided by the ryokan to visit the seven onsens in Kinosaki. There were a but of rain in the evening, with the hotel provided umbrellas which was great. There were private onsen for 40 min in the hotel that you can book for each night. Overall a relax stay...
Read moreThe Tsuruya ryokan was a great experience! The owner was very helpful and responsive before arrival and awaited us with a small flag from our county. He was very welcoming and attentive to small details and was always open for a chat-his English is very good! He explained us everything and prepared the bed and some hot tea while we were at the onsen. The room is traditional, very comfortable and has everything you might need. You get a fresh kimono and towel each day to do the onsen-to-onsen walk. He also provided us with ideas what else to do around Kinosaki. The breakfast was delicious and big - we got Japanese breakfast the first morning and western breakfast the second morning, which were both great! He gave us a lift when we left and even a little present. We were the only guests even though the town was full of people. We didn't understand that as it was a very nice stay and we stayed in some other ryokans before. I highly recommend to book a night here-you just have to send him an email!|Thank you for your...
