We came here for my birthday dinner due to the trusted suggestion of the lead tender at Bar 7. The aesthetic is minimal, artful and austere - punctuated with elegantly expressive dinnerware and antique pieces consciously placed within the space. Observing the host and chefs in their flow, you could tell by the very considered and well practiced gestures that they take great pride in their work, hospitality and presentation. So much so that it is understated and gently palpable, which I appreciate. We ordered the deluxe set with a regional sake recommendation and the fresh morsels literally melted in your mouth. Delicately balanced with a wash of wasabi and without the need for soy sauce (if at all). If we had more room to eat, we certainly would have tried everything on the menu, but the nigiri/sashimi is truly the star here. Following dinner, they helped coordinate a pickup for us to our remotely located hotel (after shuttle service hours and when taxis weren’t accepting passengers). Not flashy because they don’t need to be. The dinner...

It's a very nice looking restaurant typically of this style in Japan. I think if this is your first trip to Japan you will enjoy it a lot and the staff is prepared. If you are already familiar with Japanese food and have spent more time in the country you may find this to be a little basic. There were no other Japanese people in the space and we were given an English menu, unfortunately it was different than the Japanese menu printed shown online and there were less choices.

The English nihonshuu menu does not allow you to select a bottle by name so I asked for one with names even in Japanese (and explaied that I would be able to read it), but I was told that wasn't an option.

The sashimi was fresh and tasty but unfortunately no local or interesting fishes were on the dish and the fish were not explained to me. Unfortunately good food was marred by...

One of my best food in all Japan. We had the diner set of nigiri (5 differents type of fish) which were absolutely delicious. They prepare the fish and make the sushi right in front of you. You can see all the care and techniques needed to prepare such a delicate meal. The set is served with a portion of super good udon soup. The whole thing was only 1300y (soooo cheap for the quality). I also had the Uni sushi which was incredible (one of thebest thing I've ever eaten. The staff and chef are super nice. They had us try something they were preparing (some type of fruit) which was delicious. I absolutely...

I thought I had good sushi before, but this was beyond that. You know that AHA moment you get when you know you're having something special? This was that. Easily the best sushi I've had anywhere. Went back twice during my visit and basically ate the whole sushi menu. The ambiance and watching the chef make the sushi was part of the experience, so I didn't mind waiting a bit as its a small family operation. The chef was maticulous and I could tell he was proud of each piece he sent out. Would recommend to anyone staying and visiting Kinosakionsen.

Food was great quality but rude service overshadowed the experience. Not sure if it was because I walked in at 1:10 pm(they close after lunch service at 2pm and last seating was at 1:30) or I was dressed too casually or what. The chef and the hostess seemed very disgruntled to serve me and seemed to be very obviously speaking about me to other patrons at the bar in Japanese. The service was very icy and quick, not the warm hospitality I’d experienced at all other establishments during my time in Japan.
