I have done yukata rental once before in Kyoto, and it was disappointing for a woman 6ft tall like myself, in terms of pattern choice, even with warning them ahead of time. However, this time, as we had again reserved ahead of time and warned them about my height, they had already picked out some yukata that would be large enough, and the patterns were all so cute!!! I did have to pay above the basic price, but I thought it was reasonable as this whole thing included doing hair and dressing you. Renting hair pieces is separate, but it's like 330 yen and you can use as many pieces as you would like!
My friend is smaller so she had more choices, and she was very happy in her pink yukata. The two woman on staff were super nice, and the younger staff member was able to communicate in English somewhat, though it was easier if I spoke some Japanese as well.
I recommend renting ahead of time, walking around and taking pictures for a few hrs. And then changing so you can go enjoy the onsen.
For the online reservation, you pay 2500 yen, this includes just the basic yukata. Some cost more to rent, but you pay that extra amount at the shop. We came from Osaka and arrived a bit later than 17:00, so in the end, we could not rent the yukata. However, they charged a cancellation fee, which was not explained to us beforehand. We received several phone calls to pay the cancellation fee, so to avoid further issues or persistent calls, we ended up paying it (14.000 jpy).
Note : If you stay in the hotel around kinosaki onsen, no need to rent yukata because your hotel will provide it. We didn't expect the quality of yukata from the...
Read moreProbably my favorite yukata store I've ever been in Japan. Lady at the store was very knowledgable and friendly; they made it a very welcoming and authentic experience for us foreign tourists. Prices were reasonable.

I feel yukatas are much more practical for informal daily wear, most occasions, and as souvenirs. Most stores in big cities catering to tourists seem to specialize in more formal kimonos, offer a very limited selection of yukatas - so this place was a...
