Some staff in the food court (or someone nearby) called security and had me kicked out of the food court for using my laptop. I had just finished my meal and was still sipping my drink. They did not just ask me to put my laptop away, they made me finish my drink and leave immediately. I guess it is a covid thing, but the sign the security showed me said no cell phones or studying either - and almost all Japanese people were using cell phones. And there were two students at two tables studying next to me. This is a food court with free WiFi that only works in the food court and with signs everywhere that say the password for it. I did not see any other people get told to slam back their drinks and food and then leave. It was quite unnecessary and discriminatory to target me and send TWO security guards over to cause a scene and kick me out. One could have simply pointed out the sign and asked me to put away my work (work for a Japanese company where I risk my life every day working with people during this pandemic) like a normal person would have done. Instead, I got treated like a criminal for doing the same things as everyone else. How a society treats others, and who those others are, says a lot about a people. Shame on whoever they were.
