Third time coming to this place and it was a complete disaster this time round. This happened on 10th Oct 2018.
To start with, we had to wait for more than an hour to get our food served, instead of the promised 15minutes.
Then the food was served in a disorderly manner. For Instance, one of us ordered for fish and we had to pester the waitress to bring the plantain. This took over 10mins to have the plantain served. This is like waiting for decades considering you already have your main meal in front of you.
To add salt to injury, the fish was burnt on one side. The unburnt side was presented to you first. Turning the fish on the other side, revealed a burnt side of the fish (see attached photos). When we complained, the manager had the audacity to send the waitresses and could not show up to face us. In their own words, we were told we should have rejected the meal instead of partaking it. In other words, it was our fault. Remember the okay side was the one presented first.
The fish taste was bland. No one on our table finished their fish (we ordered four pieces of whole grilled fish-on bone)
Meanwhile we had, to return our order for 'Egusi Soup'. It was brought in when we were already 'done' with our unsatisfying meal.
In summary, poor service, bland tasting food, arrogant management and I am looking for an alternative place for West African food.
I will never go back to this place again. NEVER! Neither will the company that I was with. One star rating for this experience is really generous, deserves half...
Read moreMama Ashanti is a charming restaurant that offers a delightful escape into the heart of West African cuisine. The ambience is one of its best features, with a warm, inviting atmosphere and tasteful décor that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region. Soft lighting and soothing Afrobeat music set the mood, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed evening with friends or family.
When it comes to the food, however, it can be a bit of a hit or miss. On some occasions, dishes like the Jollof rice or Suya are flavorful and well-seasoned, giving you a real taste of West Africa’s bold and vibrant flavors. Other times, the food can be underwhelming, lacking the depth and excitement you’d expect from such a promising menu. The variety is decent, but consistency seems to be an issue.
One major downside is the wait time. The service is slow, with dishes taking longer than expected to arrive. This detracts from the overall dining experience, especially if you’re in a hurry or simply hungry. Despite this, the food is generally good – not exceptional, but satisfying if you're craving West African cuisine.
Overall, Mama Ashanti delivers a pleasant dining experience with its lovely ambience and average but enjoyable food. If you have the patience for slower service, it’s worth a visit, especially for those looking to explore authentic West...
Read moreGoing to Mama Ashanti just came right on time. I have been having some nostalgic feeling to eat Atieke and here right at Mama Ashanti I got spoilt for choice - Thanks to my colleague Wil-B. The place is home to most of the food you will find in Nigeria and Ghana. Mama Ashanti is a great option for anyone looking for a taste of West African home while traveling in East Africa - beside attieke there was Wakye Kenkey Kelewele, Eforie etc.
The quantity is very generous. Not only do they provide tasty meals but also unique experiences that visitors can enjoy such as live music performances.
The customer service was good. The waiter at Mama Ashanti takes great pride in providing excellent customer service while ensuring an unforgettable experience that will keep people coming back time and time again. I will surely go back there.
On price: It is mostly affordable, yet some of their dishes are a bit pricier...
