Ferry from Malta to Pozzallo was smooth and safe, with documents checked quickly before boarding. Masks are no longer mandatory, and we were ready to provide proof of vaccination but they did not ask for it.
The ferry itself is a great way to travel to Sicily - but on this occasion it was 10 minutes late to arrive and took over 30 minutes to disembark meaning that we missed our connecting train to Noto at 8.57am.
There are also minimal facilities/transport to get you to the Pozzallo bus or train terminal from the ferry.
Note: if you are a tourist, it is almost impossible to get a taxi or Uber in Pozzallo (it's a really small town) unless you order one while you are still disembarking and have them wait. The other option is there's a mob that run big vans, cram as many people in their vans as possible and charge €5 per seat to ferry you the 5 minutes to the AST bus stop (they also take 25-40 minutes to fill their vans full of people).
I was on the 6.30 am ferry from Malta (supposed to arrive at 8.15am), and only just made the 9.30am bus to Catania. Tickets for the bus must be purchased from the nearby Stationary Edicola Blanco in CASH, BEFORE...
Read moreI recently traveled from Malta to Sicily on the Sicily Catamaran, and it was an absolutely smooth and enjoyable experience. I took my car onboard, and the boarding process was well-organized and efficient. The staff were very friendly, professional, and helpful throughout the journey, making the whole trip feel pleasant and stress-free.
One of the highlights was watching the sunset from the passenger lounge – the view over the open sea was simply breathtaking. The catamaran is spacious and comfortable, offering a clean and relaxing environment for passengers. There are small shops onboard where you can buy snacks, drinks, and a few essentials, and a dedicated smoking area is also available for those who need it.
There’s a food service onboard with decent options, and I was happy to find a place where I could relax, eat, and enjoy the ride. Overall, it felt more like a mini cruise than just a ferry trip. I highly recommend this experience, especially if you’re traveling with family or bringing your car. It’s a convenient, scenic, and enjoyable way to cross the sea and start your Sicilian...
Read morePerfect and smooth Ferry trip from Valletta to Sicily! Ferry left 10 minutes before departure time, check in closed (for foot passengers) 30 minutes before departure - so make sure you arrive in good time!
We traveled with our dog. There were multiple options for travelling with a dog; since ours is small and fits in a leak proof case we kept him by our side the whole trip for €15. In Malta they checked the dogs documents (as we came from UK we had a EU health certificate, if you come from Malta/EU it would be a pet passport). In Sicily no one checked his documents (in our experience!). You must tell the Maltese Government if you are bringing your dog to Malta and a vet (or other representative) will meet you on arrival to do a thorough check of the documents and scan the micro chip. Malta requires a vet to administer tapeworm treatment before arrival as Malta is tapeworm free. Check the Virtu Ferry or Malta Gov website for more...
