The Valletta Waterfront The Valletta Waterfront is a historic waterfront promenade located in Valletta, Malta. Originally built as a series of warehouses and stores in the 18th century, it served as a bustling hub for maritime trade. Over the years, it fell into disrepair but was revitalized in the late 20th century. Today, it is a vibrant destination with restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues, preserving its maritime heritage while offering a modern experience for visitors. Oh, Valletta Waterfront, where I dock with pride, A haven of beauty, where the seas collide. As a mighty cruise ship, I grace your grand bay, A moment of respite in my eternal voyage's sway. Your historic walls, weathered by time's embrace, Whisper tales of merchants and their maritime grace. From warehouses to promenades, a transformation so rare, You've blossomed into a haven, beyond compare. I watch as visitors dance upon your cobblestone, Exploring your treasures, each nook they've known. They wander through shops, adorned in vibrant array, Captivated by the spirit that graces their stay. The scent of delectable cuisine fills the air, As laughter and music create an atmosphere so fair. The sun-kissed horizon reflects upon your waves, A painting of tranquility, a haven for the brave. Oh, Valletta Waterfront, I admire your charm, A place where memories are born, safe from harm. As I depart your embrace, bound for the unknown, I carry a piece of you, forever in my heart's throne.

Superb place, With its nineteen historical 250-year-old warehouses, built by Grand Master Pinto at the height of the baroque period in Malta … stretching along the water’s edge and the historical Quay Wall where the Knights of St John and European merchants used to unload their wares … the impregnable Old Power Station that serves as a testimony to the eclectic and heroic history of the Grand Harbour … the Forni Stores, dating back to 1626 and constructed by Grand Master de Vilhena – the Valletta Waterfront invites you to discover its complete mix of retail, dining and leisure experiences. The Valletta Waterfront is also the gateway to Malta’s capital city, Valletta – a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen. In fact, as one of the most successful Mediterranean ports, the Port of Valletta welcomes more than half-a-million cruise passengers into this open air museum. All this comes with an added bonus – the majestic setting within the Grand Harbour, a natural deep water port, for many thousand of years the epicentre of Malta’s maritime activity, a truly exceptional and outstanding backdrop.

Really nice entrance to Valletta, we arrived through the port from a cruise ship, so was the first thing we saw. We picked up a free map when going through the port entrance which had a blue and a red route. We followed this to navigate through Valletta, as we chose to follow, I think, the red route which said it was 2.7km long. The first stop is left to the gift shops and the Hard Rock Cafe, which is currently the second smallest in the world, second only to one in Mexico, but don't be fooled as they make up for it in their friendliness, the food is great and also after 3pm, they have happy hour which is buy one get one free on cocktails too! Upon turning right from the port, we were faced with taxi drivers offering us a trip to the town centre for between 10 and 15 euros, don't take these, continue walking past the taxi and horse drawn carts as approx 500m further down is the lift which only costs 1 euro for a return trip and takes you straight up to the heart of Valletta.

Hot place and the heat is sapping, but it's a must. Great coffee shop and ice cream/cake venue in the centre square by St John's Cathedral. Café is called Cardin reasonably priced despite it's location. Word of caution re Malta. It's pricey in places, very pricey in others, so just because the seller is telling you it's good value be very wary - though I'm sure you'll know that. One more thing to not get caught out by is the terrain and height change on the walled city. One moment you're walking down a street on a bit of a slope and when you want to turn left or right to return to the main drag, you're confronted but 150 steps! 😕 - do just consider how you're getting back. Oh, and the tourist/public lift from the cruise side level is about 300m along the quayside and costs €1/person return and whilst it says there's a machine, when we were there earlier this week it was manned with someone with change. 😁

This was our first visit to Malta and Valletta. It is a beautiful city, full of magnificent and ancient buildings. It is steeped in history. Great shop's, café bars, and restaurants. Too much to mention. We came her as a stop on the MSC Grandiosa (a fantastic cruise ship). I wish we had overnighted here. But the good thing about cruising you get a sample of places you haven't been, then we book a longer holiday at the places we liked. Be definitely coming back to Malta. Watch out for future pics....

Beautiful place! I like to visit it in the day. Last time was there in August 2023. Been there many times before. Very clean around this place. I think there one or two restaurants around with a beautiful terrace and view to the seafront and big cruises. On the left side there are a number of shops which offer food and gifts for tourists. Even if you are not going to spend money on restaurant food, you still may enjoy just walking along the waterfront and admire big ships. It's really beautiful.
