Blue Project — Local services in Isla Cozumel

After wading through the dozens online for dive shops in Cozumel we settled on Blue Project based on their reviews, responses received from Paco and service offered. We chose the package with Mi Casa en Cozumel, a nice little B&B in town. This was our first-time scuba diving and we chose to do our open water referral dives with them the first 2 days to complete our certification.

Each day we grabbed a taxi for about 5 US to the marina south of town where we met our instructor Blanca and Dive Master Juan. We were on a different boat most days as they work with the smaller fast boats and keep their group to 8 people or less. For each of our cert dives it was just us and Blanca, where she would go over the skills for that dive and add extras to improve our diving ability. She was an amazing instructor, very patient, and knowledgeable. She made sure we did everything right, because making sure you have a solid base of skills makes all your future dives that much more enjoyable. We cleared masks enough that it was never an issue when I needed to do so later on. After we finished skills we spent the next 30 minutes following her and enjoying the dive. She spotted lots of sea life and took the time to make sure we both saw it.

After two days of cert diving we then switched to Juan for 3 more days of diving while Blanca took on new students. Juan was an awesome DM and helped with any additional skills my wife or I needed work on. He spotted tons of awesome sea life for us including sea turtles and nurse sharks and took us through some awesome swim-throughs on the Santa Rosa Wall.

This is the best dive shop on the island no doubt. They keep groups small, help with all your gear and getting back in the boat, we went to a new location each time for a total of 10 dives. We will definitely be back and diving with them...

We were a group of 5 with all of us having none or just one past diving experience, and one of our group was not even comfortable swimming. From the beginning, the crew at Blue was amazing! Paco was so helpful with getting us booked and accommodating our time constraints and was in frequent contact to make sure we were able to make it there as easily as possible, down to giving us tips on which ferry to take, all without us even having to ask. When we arrived we met his wife Blanca, who was so warm and funny. She made us feel comfortable immediately, and more than that, she was a great instructor and we knew we were in experienced hands even before we stepped foot in the boat. We went out with Blanca and JuanJo on our dives and had an amazing time! I for one took a while to get comfortable in the water after a poor diving experience in the past, and JuanJo was so patient and somehow helped me get over my fear and actually enjoy the experience thoroughly! I'm still in awe of how he managed to calm me down in the water without being able to talk to me, and I'm so glad he was able to push me not to just call it a day and hang out in the boat while the rest of our group explored the reefs. The two of them really enhanced our whole trip and i can unequivocally say that the diving was by far the best part of our vacation. I would highly recommend this bunch, as they are clearly committed to giving you the best and safest experience possible, while also being very environmentally conscious. On top of that, they are genuinely nice people and we had a lot of fun getting to know them! My wife and I have been diving for many years, but this was our first trip to Cozumel We looked at websites/reviews to select a dive operator for our trip. Our experience with Blue Project was truly outstanding and my wife commented that she didn't know how I found such a great dive charter to go with! Paco and Blanca met us at our condo to get paperwork signed and talk about the charter and process. They were super friendly and helpful and what a great way to get introduced! The boat picked us up on the pier right off of our condo complex each day. They were right on schedule and this was super convenient! On the boat, safety/attention to how the divers were doing was truly outstanding. From ensuring knowing where everyone is, checking on air consumption, to ensuring if divers had to surface early they would know the boat/radio channel to contact, everyone we dove with was top notch. We had excellent pre dive briefings on the dive sites, depth and overall plan including discussing what we would see on the dive. In-between dives, the boat would come close to shore or tie up to a pier so there was no issue with motion sickness for those who might be sensitive. They had water/juice and some great snacks! Over our 4 days diving, we dove with 3 different guides and the experience was very positive with all 3 and we enjoyed the different personalities and passion about the underwater world.
