Scuba Reef Divers is owned and operated by Pepe Canton. He is a certified PADI instructor and the BEST divemaster in Cozumel. He ensured that everyone was comfortable and unhurried before each dive resulting in a safe and fun experience. Every dive was full of fascinating sea life from spotted eagle rays, to loggerhead and hawksbill turtles and nurse sharks to uncountable reef fish and the colorful toadfish and even the ultra small Painted Elysia nudibranch. At the end of our time with him (14 dives) I realized that we had only barely scratched the surface of his knowledge of the reefs of Cozumel.

The first thing that I noticed about Pepe was that if he promised something kept his word. We wished to dive nitrox and I like 100cf cylinders. Every morning our cylinders were ready with the blend clearly marked. I analyzed every tank and it was as marked.

Pepe put a great deal of thought into the dive sites for each day. They were fun and fascinating regardless of the experience level of the divers in the group. He was very good at teaching us to appreciate different kinds of dive sites, wrecks, walls, reef gardens, shallow reefs even grass bottom to look for seahorses and other tiny sea life.

As an aside I would also recommend Pepe Canton to any divers that are interested in photography. He has had a great deal of experience guiding photographers who have very specific goals for their dives.

My experience diving with Pepe and Scuba Reef Divers has been absolutely amazing. I am in my mid 30s, and scuba diving was something that I have wanted to try my whole life. I was always too scared or too poor to ever try it. Pepe conducted all my contained water and open water courses. He is incredibly kind and patient, fluent in both Spanish and English, and a wonderful teacher. Each group is small and everyone gets lots of attention.

His boat is fast and easy to get to and he always goes over everything and makes sure everyone is comfortable with the dive. During the dives, he is constantly making sure all the divers are safe while pointing out all the different wild life. Pepe has been diving these reefs for many years and knows all the wildlife and dives with conservation in mind. He is the best teacher/dive instructor anyone could ask for and I would recommend him to anyone either starting for the first time or looking to see some of the best...

I initially reached out for a single day 2 tank dive, but ended up doing 3 days and 6 dives. Pepe the owner was excellent and passionate at his craft. He showed me many places I couldn't dream of diving, and the amount of aquatic life I witnessed on the dives were top notch. We encountered a huge spotted eagle ray, multiple sharks, many eels several turtles, pufferfish, grouper, lobster, flounder and so much more. We dove through caves in the coral reef and drifted some amazing shallow water reefs and wall dives. Weather you are novice or experienced this is the guide for you. Btw his prices are top notch and he does small group dives which are much more intimate and less burdomsome than the big groups. All equipment can be rented with advanced notice.
