I stayed in Playa Del Carmen for a month and visited this mall on 3 occasions to go to the Cinoplex. Each time I visited, my 11 year old daughter and I experienced rude treatment from locals. Women would stare and point at us. One woman sholder bumped my 11 year old purposeful, even when my daughter tried to avoid her. She walked between us towards her. My daughter is tall, and with a mask on, she vould pass for a teen. Still, we were baffled by this type of aggression.
The second time we went, I stopped into the market to grab a few items before heading home. The lines in the market were super long. Based on other reviews, this seems to be normal. We were waiting in line for about 20 min with a few items in hand. A woman with a cart full of groceries tried to get in front of us. I said no. There were other people behind me too. My spanish is limited, but I could tell from her tone, and a few words I recognized, that she was angry with me. No one intervened, just watched as she continued to disrespect me. I said nothing. She eventually left and went to another line.
Today we tried to go to the movies for the last time since we are leaving tomorrow. Someone began throwing hard candy at us from behind. I tried to ignore it, but I eventually yelled at them to stop. Rude! They continued to do it, so my daughter and I left 20 min into the movie. I reported the incident to the manager, who issued a refund.
So disappointed by my experience in Playa Del Carmen. I traveled here with my daughter and stayed outdide the tourist area so that we could experience and appreciate our ancestral lineage. I hate that she experienced this type of hatred, classism, colorism, racism. I had high hopes for Playa Del Carmen, but it appears that unless I stay in the tourism area, we...
Read morePlaza Las Americas is a reasonably nice "mall" as malls go. The things that make it nice however are not anything about the mall itself as opposed to a relatively few specific stores within the mall, namely Cinepolis (movie theatre), Sears, and interestingly, Chadraui (grocery store).
Both the Plaza Las Americas and Centro malls are great escapes from the heat, especially in the hot summer months when you want a big AC environment.
As for the other stores here... They are the typical mall variety. Lots of clothes, shoes, electronics, kiosks, etc. There is one clothing store that I think my wife would say she really likes. I don't recall the name, but it is two stories right next to the casino (not my thing, but a time killer worth noting.)
There is a big food court, and many of the places serve portions really big. My wife and I often get the 2 or sometimes 3 entre dish from Alabama Mama and even shared we still can't eat it all.
Overall, this is a good mall for a place to kill a few hours and chill, but unless you add a movie, it's not a...
Read moreTypical North American shopping mall where everything is a bit more expensive than on the street. Beautifully decorated for christmas, the mall is very clean and crowdy. Nice food court and cafe bistros...both american and mexican style.
A casino, a Chedraui supermarket, a movie theatre, a Coppel store, a Sears store (not bankrupt) and an underground parking.are part of the mall.
Public restrooms in the food court...needs a bit a cleaning but, far better than most restrooms in Playa.
Have a merry not so much Grinch christmas !!
Ps, I have uploaded 6 videos on the. Google Map of the shopping mall for...
