We worked with Ammar in the months coming up to our trip. We worked out the details in advance and customized our trek to our liking. Our first full day in Nepal, We did a Kathmandu city tour with Ammar. He was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the sites we visited, he spoke English very well which was reassuring I'm a country we didn't speak the language. He also introduced us to Kamal our guide for Pikey Peak Trek. The next day Kamal and Lakpa our porter, arrived early at it hotel with a Jeep service to depart on our trek. Kamal took care of everything along the trek, he was extremely professional, knowledgeable about Nepalli culture, was an expert on the Trek route, and helped us every step of the way. Lakpa was also friendly, and a very strong porter, he also helped us along the way. This was our first time in Nepal and GokyoTreksNepal team made us feel safe and confident. We got to know Kamal on the trek as well and he is a great guy. Unfortunately we ran into some challenges along the way with the weather and we're unable to finish the planned route to to deep snow making a section unpassable. We worked with Kamal and he gave us 3 alternate route options all were great and we chose the return route that worked best for our schedule and physical abilities. Upon return to Kathmandu, we had several other activities booked through other vendors, 2 of the suppliers cancelled on us or were no shows. We worked with Ammar to schedule another tour with his company since we were so happy with the service. Our final fill day in Nepal we again had the pleasure of having Ammar as our guide where we did a day hike of Shivipuri National Park. Again the weather was not cooperative for views, but Ammar took us through the park, it was misty and a bit rainy, but we did get to see a lot of the native plants and wildlife in the park including birds, monkeys, and wild boar. When I return to Nepal, I will only be working with Ammar and his team to schedule all of my activities. I was so happy with the professionalism, friendliness, and helpfulness from Ammar, Kamal, and Lakpa. Despite our poor luck with the weather, this team ensured we had an...

In September 2016 I had an amazing trip in beautiful Nepal! I booked a trekking in Annapurna in advance with Gokyo Treks and Expedition and could not be happier for my decision. Ammar Guni, manager of the agency, offered me to stay at his house in Kathmandu before and after the commencement of the trekking. Ammar and his family treated me as a friend not as a client. They are very warm people who ensured I am well and safe and made me feel like home. The house is located about 25' by taxi from the airport in a quite neighbourhood and is just a 20' walk on foot from touristic Thamel, which makes it an excellent location to explore Kathmandu. Ammar organised the trekking to perfection. He was proactive in informing me prior my departure of the weather conditions that could affect my trekking and suggested alternatives. Ammar assigned me as porter-guide Kamal. I could not have been more content. Kamal is the best guide ever. He took care of me when I was sick and made sure that I eat properly and take my medicine, selected nice tea houses and bargained accommodation prices, motivated me when the altitude and exhaustion had taken a toll on me, in short he was my guardian angel during the whole trekking. He is an experienced and knowledgeable guide and a beautiful soul. Judging from Kamal, I am 100% that all the guides, who work at Gokyo Treks, are experienced and reliable. Apart from organising the trekking, Ammar also informed me of sights I could visit during my staying at Kathmandu and even booked the taxis to and from the airport, always at the best prices. Moreover, his nephew accompanied me the day of my arrival to the city center to purchase trekking equipment. With all these services Ammar went far beyond his role as a trekking agent. The professionalism, generosity and hospitality of Ammar, his team and his family is exceptional! He made my trip to Nepal a memorable experience. I could not have chosen a better agency. I will definitely be back! If you have doubts, whether to book with Gokyo trekking or...

I couldn't speak highly enough of our guide Kamal and porter Tikaram who provided an amazing experience on our first trek in Nepal. Kamal pointed out each mountain range and was very knowledgeable of the history and people of each region. He answered all of our (somewhat naive) questions. He was very accommodating and went above and beyond our expectations in making sure we were well looked after every step of the way.

We did the Kathmandu Valley trek, extending it to a total of 5 days. It was a great entry level trek over hills, through valleys and national parks, farms and small townships, providing a great insight into the rural Nepali way of life. The towns we stayed in were beautiful and well chosen. The accommodation was a bit pricey considering the quality of the hotels, but the views of the Himalayas are amazing, especially at sunrise and sunset.

There were a few surprise national park permits we had to purchase along the way, but we were informed that the funds go towards relief in the area for the 2015 earthquake, which many of the towns we visited were still recovering from.

Ammar, the team leader, was helpful in organising everything from the guide to the route and communicated the plans well. We were offered to stay at their guest house before and after our trek. We found it to be very clean, free wifi was provided, we had hot water each morning and afternoon, and a delicious, basic dinner was provided each night which we ate with Ammar’s family.

Gokyo Treks donates profits to send local, underprivileged children to school who would otherwise not be able to attend.

We were extremity satisfied with the service provided and are already looking forward to our next trek with Kamal and the...

In October 2022 I completed a 15-day Langtang – Gosaikunda trek organized by Gokyo Treks with Bharat Dhakal as a guide. This was my third trip with this company, and all of them were perfectly prepared by Ammar, the director of Gokyo Treks. (Btw. my previous review about my earlier two treks is from another account as Google does not allow to post more than one review from one account). The previous treks were in a group of 4-5 people, with one guide and a couple of porters. So, I was confident that this time I can also rely on Ammar and that I do not have to look any further. Indeed, advice and help were needed even before the trip started, as the originally planned Manaslu trail was impossible to do due to heavy rain and landslides in that area. Ammar personally spent a lot of time at the immigration office that issues trek permits where the situation was changing with incoming news from the mountains. Finally, we decided to go for Langtang and Gosaikunda treks. This time I was trekking alone with Bharat as a guide and Ram as a porter. They made a great team taking care of everything that was needed during the trek. Excellent choice of lodges, help with the meals, taking photos. Bharat was present all the time around me ready to help with anything I needed. One day he almost run to the next village to get a room when he learned on the trail that most of the lodges are booked. During day hikes days, such as to Tserko Ri, both Bharat and Ram were with me with Ram carrying my stuff, Bharat leading the group, and Ram at the end. This was very appreciated! Again, I can highly recommend Gokyo Treks and letting Ammar organize your trip!

So first off, great choice in the Annapurna Panorama Trek, excellent views, delicious food, and let’s just say the trek was hard enough for me and I have hiked through the western US. Rajesh was my guide and I am sooooooooooooooo happy it was him!! He took excellent care of me, always made sure I felt okay, made sure I didn’t feel pressured with the pace, always made sure I had enough to eat. There are some pretty tough moments on this hike, even though sll of Nepal describes it as easy. Going downstairs for such long periods of time can be very challenging on one’s knees, but Rajesh made it as easy as he possibly could for me. I have to say, he always pick the right place to stay. That is not subjective, he actually took care of the pick the best room he could for me, made sure I was as comfortable as possible, and picked the best logistical location possible. I didn’t realize there would be so much to consider, but he considers all of it. You could also tell that Rajesh has an excellent reputation among tea house proprietors. He doesn’t drink or smoke, he maintains the highest professionalism, he knows he has to get up early and get his guests to their location safely. Uttam was my porter and he was strong and super accommodating! Very professional, and very accommodating. Really helped me out when I needed it! I also wanted to mention Ammar, every time I had to communicate to him from the states using WhatsApp, he always answered promptly and politely. He put together an excellent trip, as I also wanted to go to Chitwan national Park. Thank you everyone, I had an excellent time!!
