Okay, I absolutely hate this station.
I seriously have never ever written a review for anything. But I seriously came here looking for the review because it is so bad/dumb. Firstly, who thought it would be a good idea to close the middle of the station and create a bottleneck area? Like this is probably the dumbest thing I have ever experienced in my life.
Second, I live close to it and use it virtually everyday. Before, I had no problem with it. Sure it is small but it has everything you would want in a station. But then with the new year came and so did a new policy. The automated doors are now closed on both sides. So if you do not have an OV-Chipkaart or even worse, if you do but not have money in it - now listen to this - you need to go around the station to reach the opposite site. To make matters worse the ill mannered personnel working at the station with the sole purpose of seeing if anyone is trying to skip this process to reach the other side will not allow or accompany you to the other side after you explain to them.
Third, so what is the point of having 10 people around to "check" on your clients instead of helping us? They are not even working because I pass by everyday and see everyone just chilling and talking. When you go talk to them politely and request to be accompanied to the other side, they treat you like they own the world and turn their heads away.
Forth, please NS or whoever takes care of this place. Make a plan, like contract an urban planner and fix this situation. Because not only it ios dumb, it affects your business. Before the issue was with the separate identical machines for Trains and the other for Metro - where I witnessed countless people loosing money on it....
Read moreAmsterdam Amstel is all about the location. It's not a major structure when you see it but a major location. This is a high end area and this station could be passed without noticing the trains or the trams.
I give it five stars for the beauty of the architecture blending in with the surroundings as well as the travel options this station allows. If I were lazy after visiting friends out here and didn't want to cycle home, I could either get on a train or tram to eventually get home (hint - cycling is always faster and more reliable in Amsterdam).
Nice station for going towards Utrech or Amsterdam Centraal. From those two options - you can get everywhere in...
Read moreA typical Dutch railway station with a clean and functional layout. The platforms can be very windy and uncomfortable at times, even though they are partially covered. There is a central waiting area near the kiosk with seating, but it fills up quickly and overall there are not enough places to sit while waiting.
During my 15-minute wait I was approached multiple times by people begging, which surprised me since access to the station should be limited to valid ticket holders. I did not see any security staff on the platforms.
Apart from that, the station is easy to navigate, reasonably clean, and all signs and connections are well organised....
