Store Keukenhof — Local services in Lisse

I'm not really a flower person but I was blown away by Keukenhof. The variety, fragrance and beauty of the flowers is hard to describe and photos do not make them justice.

We visited the site as part of a group tour departing from Amsterdam and after a 45 minute bus ride, arrived on site at 10:00 am. We chose a sunny day as it makes a big difference for outdoor photos, especially when so many colors are involved. We split our time between the outdoor gardens and indoor pavilions featuring mostly tulips but also other flowers like narcissus, hyacinths and orchids. Special mention to the Willem-Alexander pavilion which contains an amazing varieties of tulips and the Beatrix pavilion which contains a beautiful array of orchids.

We left the site at 1:30 pm and even though we packed lunch to avoid the long lines at the restaurants, it was not enough time. A full day would have been needed to fully explore the site.

With 26 thousands daily visitors, the site can get crowded but less so in the morning. Also, some sections are more crowded than others. For example, the lower right quadrant (between the Oranje Nassau pavilion and the windmill) is very crowded whereas the top half (area above the Willem-Alexander pavilion) is...

I planned a trip to Amsterdam specifically to watch the annual flower parade and we visited Keukenhof on the day of the parade. It was very busy, but I was expecting this because internet research told me that it was the busiest day there on the day of the parade! However, we still had a lovely day, the gardens are beautiful and you won’t stop taking photos! Just to clarify this is a show garden. Some people seem to think this is a place where the flowers grow in the fields. If you want to see the actual fields, you need to go to other tulip farms in the area, where you can see them. Or when you are walking or driving through the area in Lisse, you see them, so you can take photos, just don’t trespass onto farmers fields! There is also a boat trip at Keukenhof which is only 10 euro adult / 5 euro child, and this takes you past the actual flower fields next to Keukenhof, so I’d recommend adding this onto your ticket for Keukenhof. Also, the flower parade goes right past Keukenhof but it’s very very busy outside there, so we walked 10 minutes into downtown Lisse, and easily got a space at the front of the barrier.
