New World Howick — Local services in Howick

I sadly have to provide an edit to my review, while I have loved shopping at New World their service has declined. It is clear to me that the staff have no ability to make intelligent clear decisions on their own and have to resort to "computer says no" responses especially around the sale of alcohol. While I still recommend the store as below, do not expect the staff to use common sense at any point and instead come prepared to be judged guilty. Especially as a foreign citizen. Bring your international passport even well into your 40's and do not bother grabbing a bottle of wine for dinner if you have had a beverage at Basalt or the Apothecary up the road previously.

The local Howick New World is the friendliest, most convenient place to shop. Handy click and collect facilities outside of the main building for after hours pick up and a huge range of fresh produce. today should be a good shoppherg day, but I felt a little bit disappointed, Cuz when I wait for checkout, I saw staff supply a really good service to the customer before me, said hi, smile, have a nice day...on my turn, no smile, no eye contact, no hi, a little bit awkward, so I said firstly hi, no reply, she just did her job quickly, when I paid the bill, not ask me about stickers, then I asked her, she gave me 6 stickers quickly, but I spent 157 dollars, should get 7 stickers, then I showed the receipt to another staff. she gave me another one. I really don't want her big attitude change just because I'm an Asian customer, After all, I saw her just serving another customer so enthusiastically，I hope my case is an isolated case and not that many Asian customers are...

Normally, this branch of NW is really good. No complaints! But during my visit today for click n collect during level 4 lockdown; there was NO QUEUE, NO SOCIAL DISTANCING, AND NO PREVENTION MEASURES IN PLACE!!!! You can't really tell until you go into the store, and BOY IT WAS BUSY! I quickly picked up a few essentials they missed in my order and high tailed it out of there. I thought there was no line so it wasn't busy right? Turns out I was dead wrong. Should've used my brain and though, wow parking lot sure is full, but there should be social distancing and a line in place, right? Nah. It was a free for all.
