We didn’t originally plan to visit Cods and Crayfish, but the other fish and chip shop was closed. Cods and Crayfish is a popular spot known for fresh, locally caught seafood. Although there was a queue ahead of us, their service was efficient, and we didn’t have to wait long. The food was fresh, especially the moist, flaky fish cooked in a light, crispy batter. Read moreWanted to finda simple seafood meal in Kaikoura. Ordered.... 1x battered blue cod $13, 1x battered gurnard $9, 1x Paua pattie (wasn't sure how it would come. It was heavily battered, hardly any paua fritter mix. Had better for half the price) $12 4x Scallops (again, not sure how thy came. They were battered heavily and 2 of them were so shrunk, looked like they had been pulled out of an earlier offering and cooked again. So, all these things had the the same batter, the weirdest gluey texted batter I have ever tasted. We could not stomach finishing it. Including a Coke and a sprite. Just under $60. Not a problem if it were quality. But I could not decipher the difference between any of it between the different fish and scallops because of the weird gluey batter and our saturation.
One star is too much. Such a shame...
