We were there very early, just after 5pm. Hungry after a bit of a drive. So obviously very quiet although a couple of larger groups came in later. Pickup orders seemed popular.
Firstly, my wife is a strict vegan. That wasn't a problem at all and she wasn't short of choices. She enjoyed her Takka Dahl.
Service was friendly and attentive. The music did get a bit loud, and when I asked for it to be turned down a bit, that wasn't an issue at all.
Pretty good drinks list, a bit more choice than many curry houses. Fair prices too, my glass of Yealands Savvy $9.
I had Fish Masala which I asked for Indian hot. It wasn't really, but they don't know me so probably didn't want to risk my catching fire! It was a decent portion but perhaps not as generous as I've had elsewhere. And I'd say it tasted fine. Nothing spectacular but still pleasant enough.
A bit pricier than what I normally see. My main was $28 and didn't include rice at $3.50. My wife's vegan dish was $22 which was pretty typical so no complaints there.
Overall all nice enough and we'd be...
Read moreWe were a group of 10 in Kaikoura primarily for whale watching activity. Unfortunately due to some confusion with booking our trip was rescheduled to 12.45pm returning at 3.30pm. This did not leave us enough time to have lunch before the trip and the restaurant closed by 3pm. We called up the restaurant requesting him to keep packed to go veg biryani boxes for us to be picked up when we returned. Manohar, the owner was gracious enough to accept, even though it was past the closure time. When we reached the restaurant by 3.45pm after our trip Manohar did personally come over to hand over the biryani boxes. We soon realized that the total boxes we had ordered would not be sufficient and Manohar as a great host offered to prepare few more boxes for us. In the end the food was decent, but more importantly Manohar's graciousness saved the day for us specially since we had 4 hungry kids with us and a long drive to Christchurch immediately...
Read moreMy husband & I ate here on Christmas Day, there were 3 restaurants open in Kaikoura this evening, therefore it was quite busy. We had booked so did get our table straight away, unfortunately it was right beside the bathrooms. We ordered several dishes and ordered them mild as I'm a bit of a wuss. It took a long time for the food to come out, my husband joking that it was due to them having " to make it mild" we got a butter prawn & kadai chicken both of which were delicious but I could have managed a bit more heat. They came with rice and we got poppadoms & a naan also which were good. The staff were lovely. We presented the entertainment book voucher for a discount which they said they were not accepting on this day, the book states they can not be used on Mothers Day & Valentines Day only. so this was a little disappointing, but to be fair the prices were very...
