We had an awful experience the other day. The male server was very rude, I simply asked if the gravy was glutenfree and he started grumbling at me and saying if I wanted gluten free I needed to say so at the start, he was not polite about this in anyway. My son is gluten free and we've ordered fish and chips from many places, it's never been an issue. He then started my order again (which by the way had only at that point, 1 scoop of kumara chips and now gravy)... seemed a bit dramatic to me. I politely ask if they do normal buns or just gluten free because there was a sign saying all burgers gluten free, and as I'm not gluten free my self I saw no need to have a gluten free bun and like most people who have the luxury of being able to eat gluten, I find gluten free buns dry and unappealing. He then raised his voice as if I had said something extremely offensive and aggressively pointed to the sign, telling me "obviously we only do gluten free buns, how can I make a gluten free burger without gluten free buns?" At that point I was feeling very uncomfortable, I had been polite and with my 2 young children there, felt confused and uncomfortable with his reactions. I said to him it feels like he was being rude and he replied saying he's just joking around. Which certainly wasn't the case but I let it slide. Im sure he was having a bad day and maybe had the same questions being asked about the buns and was sick of it, who knows. But ive worked in customer service before and I would never be so rude to a customer, yet alone someone being polite and with young kids.. He read out my order correct before payment was made and then when collecting my order he had missed out 3 items. He Was alot more polite by that time but tried to say I hadnt ordered these things, even though he had read it all out before I paid. He checked back on the order and it was obviously there as he ended up giving me the food. As for the food itself, the chips were pretty good, loved the gravy, but the hot dogs were uneatable, neither my daughter nor myself could finish it, the batter was too thick and undercooked and the sausage was cheap and nasty. Unfortunately we will not be returning, which is a shame because we are often in the area at this...
Read moreThis review is intended to help anyone considering working for the apartments. I signed on to help with housekeeping during the busy holidays. They were desperate for help as they are constantly losing staff because of how uncomfortable it is to work there. In short- there are huge amounts of drama going between the building manager and housekeeping manager on a daily basis which consistently negatively affects the cleaners. I was able to ignore most of it, as I was only helping out for 2.5 weeks, but felt the need to post a review when I was mislead and then underpaid on my last paycheck. I was asked to work on New Year's Day. I was the only cleaner to come in that day, which I agreed to do because I was told I'd be paid double time for working on a public holiday. The housekeeping manager told me this repeatedly (being very grateful that I was coming in so she could enjoy the holiday) and I had a separate conversation with the building manager specifically asking him about pay for that day before agreeing to it. When my paycheck came through, I wasn't paid double time as promised. When I contacted the building manager about it, he insisted that because New Years fell on a Sunday it didn't count as a public holiday. In short, he refused to pay what I had been promised multiple times. He knows that as a traveller on a working holiday visa that there isn't anything I can do about it. It's worth your time to find somewhere else to work and stay away from here- everyone needs help these days and I have found most Kiwis to be honest, upfront, laid...

The apartment is reasonably well insulated so with the doors closed, it is not too bad, but if you want to be on the balcony, it is very noisy.|- the beach is literally across the road, but it is a very busy, big road. The beach is stunning and a really good place for a long walk, but only after you have navigated that road|- the place is getting a bit tired inside |- there was no information available inside the apartment or digitally about services such as recycling, how to use the appliances like the laundry or info about restaurants in the area.|- apart from the bar on the ground floor, there are not really any good places to eat within...
