Tahunanui Beach — Attraction in Nelson

This is a stunning beach. I have lived across the road from it at the Sands apartments on two occasions and absolutely loved going for walks and runs along this stretch of golden sand. It seems to have its own microclimate where even when Nelson is a bit windy, Tahuna beach is always a great place. The water is shallow for a long way so it is a nice safe place for kids to play and there are usually kite-surfers to watch playing in the shallow bay.If you continue to walk down and around the corner of the beach to the estuary, dogs are allowed in this area.At high tide, there is a stretch of beach along rocks Rd where people jump into the water and swim in the sea. There are parks and even a small fun-park adjacent so plenty to do and lots of food...

Long beach with white sand, stretching away into the horizon so there is more than ample room for all to sunbathe without intruding on others' space. It looks shallow and safe; dunes (and dune projects) are well established, with dense cover higher up the beach. This is a popular beach with the locals and in relatively close proximity to the city centre.

There is also a neat, little playground, complete with an awesome skateboarding ramp, located next to the beach pathway that is popular with young-families when they tire of the sand and sea. And there's no shortage of parking nearby so you can get up close to the beach front with your picnic and beach-side...

Beautiful beach , beware that dogs aren't allowed on most of the beach but are at one end , check for details online as you can be caught out . I've only been when it's not windy but was a lovely spot for children , no huge waves at this time and shallow waters to play in . Close by is a few different play grounds for different ages , an animal park ( costs ) , water park, mini goft, go carts etc . Lots of options.
