Lake Taupo is one of the most captivating destinations I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Located in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island, it offers an incredible blend of natural beauty, outdoor activities, and tranquility. The sheer size of the lake itself is awe-inspiring—spanning over 600 square kilometers, it’s the largest freshwater lake in the country and provides a perfect backdrop for relaxation or adventure.

The surrounding scenery is simply breathtaking. Whether you're hiking in the nearby Tongariro National Park, enjoying a scenic drive around the lake, or just sitting by the shore, the views of the clear blue waters with the majestic mountains in the distance are unbeatable. I particularly loved visiting the Huka Falls, just a short drive from Taupo town. We're biassed, as we live here. For visitors there is so much you can do. For those who like sedate entertainment, there is shopping, bush walks, great restaurants, a dip in the Wairakei thermal pools of your over 14. You can fish, sail, go for jet boat rides, even do a scenic flight in a float plane. You can bungy, trail ride, and chuck yourself out of a perfectly good plane at 18,000 feet if you have a mind to, with nothing but a few strings and a fancy sheet over your head. Yup, take your pick.
