一見小さな地学研究室のラボに併設された小さい標本展示場ですが、多岐にわたる標本の種類がある。岩石についてや、宝石類、さらには化石、ボーリング調査の結果など幅広く展示がなされていて見応えがあった。ちゃんと標本がどこでとれたかなど書いてあり、この大学周辺で取れたようなサンプルもあってご当地感が嬉しい。 このあたりは海沿いにはかなり切り立ったボルダリングする人もいるような崖があるので化石探しには持ってこいなのだろうな等思いを馳せることが出来る。とはいえ自身の少なくないニュージーランドで少し揺れるだけで岩が落ちてきそうなあの岩肌には近づきたくない気もしている…化石に魅了された人達はそんなリスク乗り越えていってしまうんだろうな
