RE Burger Dunedin — Restaurant in South Island

Had to leave a quick review of this place as my burger was absolutely amazing!! Literally the best burger I've ever had!

Saw an article in the local paper about this restaurant and their continual growth. Sounded like a place that we should visit, being locals.

Wife ordered online around 5:35 on a Sunday evening while we were at the supermarket. Email noted to expect the order to be ready at 6:05pm - all good, we shot around after the groceries and waited for the time to tick around. Finally my wife got her name called at around 6:15 and walked out with two burgers.

Small hiccup that occurred next was put a little dampener on things. We received a call a few minutes down the road telling us that they had given us the wrong burgers. We're very confident that the server called my wife's distinctive name so don't think the issue was on our side. Was offered to keep the burgers, but we decided to switch them for the actual versions we had ordered. Small issue which was the only reason I knocked a star - bit of an inconvenience without much offered to resurrect.

Finally got out of there by around 6:25 and shot home to eat them. A quick zap in the microwave to get them back up to temperature and we were happy campers.

My wife didn't rate her's as much as me, but the Southern Fried Chicken in mine was absolutely the best. I'm a big chicken guy, and this place is now firmly set as one of my favourite restaurants! I will definitely be back - hopefully the team keep improving their service and continue to grow! (Sorry I don't know the name of either of the burgers we had, left that to the wifey to decide for me.)

Just had a Kiwi Burger combo at their new Greerton, Tauranga branch.

FOOD Pros: great ingredients, very tasty when able to taste. (see cons)

Cons: Way Way too much sauces quantity. Luckily I had this at home, if I was in a car, the cleaning bill would be dearer than the food. Because there was too much sauce not only did it drip everywhere, this liquid tsunami caused the other ingredients to slip out. The bun which was already slightly too soft for a burger became a damp sponge. And finally on the sauces, the quantity overpowered the other ingredients individual flavours.

Next Con: The Fries - well they must of had SF50 on because they were sooo pale, no brown tan at all and definitely not crisp. They were warm (not hot) and oh so limp. Limper than the night after. Also there was Paprika sprinkled on them. I was not informed of this, written or vocally. I personally just like plain salt.

Finial observations: Store presentation, layout and decoration great. Staff and service GREAT. I was told that my burger combo would take 15mins. As I was parked just outside the front door I informed the cashier I would be in my car. Approximately 7 minutes later they delivered straight to my car, well done. I had poked my head in mid afternoon that day and asked for a printed menu, they told me there was none. Also their website only has branch addresses. No online menu, no way of contacting HQ. No email details.

Two stars would of been one but the great service raised it by one star.

We placed an order with Delivereasy which was three burgers, one with fries, two drinks and a separate large fries. Cost of the order including delivery was over $90. One burger was gf. There was a delay of about five minutes between the status change on delivery app from ‘preparing your order’ to placed in our hands. The chips wee lukewarm and soggy, not a crispy or hot one to be found. The burgers were tasty enough, but pretty much cold. For this price and that delivery time I would have expected things to be a bit better. I have had the fries in store once before and they were great, but couldn’t speak for any of the other food. Would not order this for delivery again. EDIT: totally not Re Burger's fault on the cold factor - completely agree with their comment below. I honestly reckon a lot of restaurants are done a disservice by delivery services. Having said that, if a service is offered and charged for, it should meet a good standard as it is the end representation of the business in question that the consumer receives at their door. I wholeheartedly would give Re Burger another shot, just to be clear. Just...
