Aurora on George — Local services in South Island

Are you like me and wondering ‘where have all the clean, modern, cozy hotels gone in Dunedin’? Are they a thing of the past….well let me tell you folks, there’s still one and it’s Aurora On George! I stumbled on this wonderland 6 months ago and it's my go to whenever I visit this part of NZ. I’m on my third visit here and it never ceases to amaze. The gardens are botanical quality, the rooms well appointed, the beds worthy of a King as is the cleanliness. Service is top notch, watch out for Kent, whom I’m certain is possibly Batman himself, as when you need him, he seemingly appears from out of nowhere. Oh, and ladies the shower pressure is second to none. No dribbling faucet when you need to wash that conditioner from your hair. I’ll stop now before I get accused of being a fanboy, treat yourself…you won’t regret it. Right, I’m off for a shower before bed…it REALLY...

Staying during Spring meant that I enjoyed the beauty and fragrance of the blossoms in the central garden. It also meant that there were unexpected showers for which I was very grateful for the umbrella that was provided by Aurora. The bed was very comfortable and the complementary chocolate cookies and milk made for a inviting welcome. I really appreciated the water conservation efforts and learnt alot from reading about the research that Aurora has been part of. The walls are not completely sound proof but that didn't hinder me from getting a good night's sleep. They are so amazing, I will be asking for the recipe. Beautiful outdoor oasis by your rooms thanks to George the gardener. 24hour shop across the road sells beautiful ice-cream and sorbet. What a great place to stay in a great location, close enough to town to walk, with an Asian restaurant attached. Microwave for small meals available in the rooms and attention to detail is incredible, see photos 😁👍 Also small dog 🐶 pet friendly
