Although Panama City, Panama, like most places in South America, has beautiful scenery, I would highly recommend rethinking plans to visit for the following reasons:
Cost: Panama is on par with the US when it comes to food, transportation, and rental.
Service: There were some nice places but you will quickly realize it is not as friendly as other places such as Columbia ( love Columbia) and the vibe is once again, on par with the US.
Location: Imagine a city with beautiful buildings, tropical scenery, and warm winter weather. Now overlay that image with the city scenes from the movie Idiocracy. Panama City is having major issues with trash services and they have massive piles of trash bags on many of the city streets. But at least the landfill caught fire and filled the air with toxins 🤦 The city picture is early in the morning and that isn't fog. The other picture is a shot of the Island which is normally very visible until the toxic smoke ate it.
Safety: Keep your head on a swivel ( think any city USA at night) and definitely do not go into unfamiliar or empty areas at night.
In general, I highly recommend passing on travel to Panama City. Panama has a lot of work to do but between their sanitation issues, poor air quality, and US prices, I would recommend looking to neighboring countries. Again, my pick is Columbia for...
