We did the "Full Day Tour to Copacabana and Isla del Sol from Puno". The agency took care of everything. Everything was included. A taxi driver picked us up at our hotel, then took us to the bus station and helped us get our tickets. There you need to fill a form for Bolivian customs (very easy but you need a smartphone with internet). The bus ride and the border crossing were smooth, there was someone to explain what we had to do at each step (in Spanish and English). We arrived in Copacabana in 3.5 hours. The tour guide from the local Bolivian agency was waiting for us. He was really nice and knowledgeable. We did a short walk to the cathedral (unfortunately it was closed). Then we had lunch in a nice restaurant. Then we took a private boat to the Isla del Sol. On the island we visited the Templo del Sol and then walked to the Fuente de la juventud. The walk was so nice with beautiful sights on the lake. After the return journey to Copacabana, our guide took us to the bus station to take our bus back to Puno. It was not the same company that we had in the morning (I think it's because there were few bookings). The return journey was less smooth as we departed 40 minutes later, but the bus was comfortable. When we arrived at the bus station in Puno, a taxi driver took us back to our hotel. It was a long day, starting at 6:20 and ending at 9 pm in our hotel. But it was totally worth it! We really enjoyed it. This side of the lake is much nicer,m, the island is beautiful and we had the opportunity to see Incas sites. Crossing the Bolivian border by...
Read moreJust fabulous. Took all of the guesswork and the stress out of the planning and made sure that all I had to do was sit back and enjoy the lake. Give the complexity that's required to get from puno to Isla del Sol and back I highly recommend that you work with titicaca tours.
There's a lot that can go wrong with that many touch points and crossing over an international border that is known for his lack of sense of humor. And that's exactly what happened to me, one of my documents for getting my Visa wasn't exactly what they had in mind and the border guard basically was crossing his arms and saying you're not going to Bolivia today. I let the tour group know and within minutes they had a representative there told me everything was going to be all right and figured it out and I got in. I'm really downplaying how much stress this was and how comforting and capable they were navigating all this for me.
They were wonderful throughout the day. It was an easy bus ride, a nice lunch, a nice ferry over, a good tour, and then some hand holding making certain that all the documentation was ready to pass back through the border to peru. I know you could probably figure this out on your own and do it more cheaply but then you're going to be spending a lot of time worrying. I am so incredibly happy that I went with them and I did so based on some of the reviews that I had seen before and I...
