As a frequent visitor to Warwick Junction, also known as "The Market," during my university years in Durban, I never anticipated feeling so vulnerable while driving and parking there today.
Ironically, I felt safer when I was away from my vehicle and could blend into the crowd. However, being a lone female driving a car that is reportedly a target for hijackers made me acutely aware of the area's safety concerns.
While the Durban Metro Police has made efforts to increase visible policing, it seems that this particular area has been overlooked.
The fact that this area serves as a crucial thoroughfare for numerous taxi routes in and out of the city demands heightened vigilance, considering the reputation of taxi drivers for disregarding traffic regulations.
