I recently joined Virgin Active Cradlestone with high hopes of becoming more active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. However, my experience with the gym during load shedding has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. Despite being a part of a large company like Virgin Active, they have failed to provide any provisions during power outages, leaving me and other members without access to essential equipment like treadmills.
On multiple occasions, my wife and I have arrived at the gym only to find that the treadmills are completely powerless during load shedding. Considering the fact that we pay a monthly subscription fee, it is extremely disheartening to not receive the services we are promised. I would expect a company of this size to prioritise the needs of its paying customers and take necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted access to facilities, especially during load shedding, which is a known occurrence in South Africa.
Load shedding is a well-known and planned event, and it is unacceptable that Virgin Active has not taken adequate steps to address this issue. It is evident that there is a lack of preparation and consideration for their customers' needs during such times. By neglecting to provide power backup or alternative workout options during load shedding, the gym is essentially failing to deliver what we pay for—an active and functional fitness center.
I would like to urge Virgin Active to rectify this situation promptly. As a customer, I expect the gym to acknowledge and address their shortcomings. They should invest in a reliable power backup system to ensure that essential equipment like treadmills can still be used during load shedding. Additionally, providing alternative workout options or extending memberships for the duration of load shedding would also demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction.
It is vital for Virgin Active to prioritise the needs and expectations of their members and take proactive measures to prevent such disappointments in the future. Failure to address this issue will only result in more dissatisfied customers and tarnish the reputation of the gym.

The gym itself is far too small for the number of members it accommodates, leading to overcrowding. Adding to this, the machines are outdated, worn-out, and frequently broken, with replacements or repairs taking an unreasonable amount of time. The facilities simply don’t match the high price of membership.
There is a constant issue with weights being dropped in the gym. Whilst this is common practice at some gyms, with a very limited supply of heavy free weights, waiting weeks for repairs becomes a frustrating norm for those serious about weight training.
For the premium price you pay at Virgin Active, there are plenty of more modern gyms offering better equipment, more space, and improved facilities at a fraction of the cost. Unless significant improvements are made, I cannot recommend this gym to anyone looking for value for money or a quality...
