First of all, the Theme Parks are amazing, and it was a trip i had on my bucket list for a decade now. I would visit PortAventura again. But sadly, I had so many problems with my booking. At first they couldn't find my reservations and it took an hour with main information and booking.com hotline, and all due to my last name with an umlaut (ö) that turned into a questionmark. For the whole 2 days i stayed at the resort they couldn't get my key/access cards working, at first I couldn't get into my room and I got me cards, then my cards didn't work at the parks and I went to customer service three times but every time i tried to use them for a express pass or photo pass or at a food place it didn't work. For travellers who want to go to Tarragona or Barcelona from Salou, there are few options:
-There is a shuttle bus organized by Renfe that brings you from Salou-Port Aventura train station to Sant Vicenc de Calders station, then there are regular trains to Barcelona.
-Busplana, has regular buses going from Salou city center to Tarragona bus station, Barcelona Airport and Barcelona city center.
-Take a taxi from Salou to Reus then direct train to Barcelona. Taxi fare is about 26.0euros.

Read moreThere seems to be some local regulation which prevents rideshare companies from operating (Uber/Bolt) and yet the local taxi services are very bad. They’re all focused on gaining the business of people going to the theme parks, which means there are almost no taxis at the train station. If you miss the private bus that runs infrequently you’ll be walking 15-20 minutes in the hot sun (almost no shade) into town.
Good luck getting out of town too. Train from Salou station runs every 2 hours and the taxis are likely not to show up even when you call their routing service ahead of time.
