The Santanyí market is exactly what you'd expect from a major market on the island: a lively atmosphere with a large selection of vendors. The variety is impressive, with everything from local produce and artisan crafts to clothing and jewelry. You can definitely spend a good amount of time browsing and find some unique items. However, be prepared for the crowds. This market is incredibly popular, and it gets very, very busy. If you're not an early riser, expect a significant challenge finding parking. You may end up parking a kilometer or more away and walking to the market entrance. While the energy is part of the appeal, the sheer volume of people can make navigating the narrow aisles a bit of a challenge. While the quality of the goods is generally high, it's worth noting that the prices are on the higher side compared to smaller, more local markets you might find elsewhere. This isn't the place for bargain hunting, but rather for finding quality items. My main observation is the prevalence of tourists, many of whom seem to be there for a "TikTok" or "Instagram" moment rather than for the actual market itself. This can detract slightly from the authentic, local feel that some smaller markets possess. Overall, the Santanyí market is a good but not exceptional experience. It's definitely worth a visit for the selection and atmosphere, but it lacks the charm of a less crowded, more authentic market. I'd rate it 4 out of 5 stars—solid, but the crowds and touristy vibe hold it back from being truly outstanding. Come early, and be prepared for...
Read moreSantanyi looks nice, and the market stalls are OK. However, I found the rudeness quite honestly staggering. Santanyi isn't a friendly place. My mother in law uses a mobility walker and was slow crossing the road, causing a driver to start tooting his horn at her! I threw my arms up at him, and he wound his window down, shouting abuse at me. I've no idea what he was saying, but it didn't sound nice, and it left me quite shaken, also upsetting my 84 year old MIL. Other drivers were also rude and didn't stop at pedestrian crossings.
We visited the market from Cala D'or, which is the opposite in terms of attitudes. Everyone in Cala D'or has been friendly and welcoming, but Santanyi just had a horrible vibe, and I wouldn't ever go there again. Maybe locals get frustrated at how busy the market is (absolutely heaving with people), but there was no excuse for the behaviour of some drivers. I'd go as far as to say it was openly hostile, leaving all of us...
Read moreMercadillo de Santanyí is absolutely adorable, but be prepared for CROWDS. Like, barely-can-walk level crowds. It’s a full-on squeeze-fest, especially in the narrow streets, so just brace yourself. To be honest, most of the stalls sell pretty much the same things you see at every market in Spain.. It’s definitely blown up thanks to TikTok, but yeah… it is cute. We ended up buying these classic Spanish beach blankets from this one lovely señora for just 10 euros, which was actually an amazing deal and they were beautiful. But don’t expect to bargain, these people do NOT negotiate. As Balkans, we live for a little price haggling, so that was a bit of a culture shock. 😅 Still, it was a cool experience overall. Not sure I’d do it again because of the intense crowds, but I’m glad we went. The vibe is sweet, the colors are lovely, and if you’re into local markets (and can survive slow-motion walking), you’ll...
